The Dark Side of Neutron Stars

open access: yesAdvances in High Energy Physics, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
We review severe constraints on asymmetric bosonic dark matter based on observations of old neutron stars. Under certain conditions, dark matter particles in the form of asymmetric bosonic WIMPs can be effectively trapped onto nearby neutron stars, where they can rapidly thermalize and concentrate in the core of the star.

Solar-Like Oscillators in the Kepler Era: A Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2021
Many late-type stars across the Milky Way exhibit observable pulsations similar to our Sun that open up a window into stellar interiors. The NASA Kepler mission, a space-based photometric telescope, measured the micro-magnitude luminosity fluctuations ...

Asteroseismology with the Kepler mission [PDF]

open access: bronzeCommunications in Asteroseismology, 2007
NASA's Kepler mission will fly a photometer based on a wide-field Schmidt camera with a 0.95 m aperture, staring at a single field continuously for at least 4 years. Although the mission's principal aim is to locate transiting extrasolar planets, it will provide an unprecedented opportunity to make asteroseismic observations on a wide variety of stars.

From Dust Bowl to Dust Bowl: Soils are Still Very Much a Frontier of Science

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 75, Issue 6, Page 2037-2048, November 2011., 2011
When the Soil Science Society of America was created, 75 yr ago, the USA was suffering from major dust storms, causing the loss of enormous amounts of topsoil as well as human lives. These catastrophic events reminded public officials that soils are essential to society's well‐being. The Soil Conservation Service was founded and farmers were encouraged

On the Nature of the Core of α Centauri A: The Impact of the Metallicity Mixture

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2019
Forward asteroseismic modeling plays an important role toward a complete understanding of the physics taking place in deep stellar interiors. With a dynamical mass in the range over which models develop convective cores while in the main sequence, the ...

T35: A Small Automatic Telescope for Long‐Term Observing Campaigns

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, Volume 2010, Issue 1, 2010., 2010
The T35 is a small telescope (14″) equipped with a large format CCD camera installed in the Sierra Nevada Observatory (SNO) in Southern Spain. This telescope will be a useful tool for the detecting and the studying of pulsating stars, particularly, in open clusters.

Tracing early stellar evolution with asteroseismology: pre-main sequence stars in NGC 2264

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
Asteroseismology has been proven to be a successful tool to unravel details of the internal structure for different types of stars in various stages of their main sequence and post-main sequence evolution.

Asteroseismology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Asteroseismology is the determination of the interior structures of stars by using their oscillations as seismic waves. Simple explanations of the astrophysical background and some basic theoretical considerations needed in this rapidly evolving field are followed by introductions to the most important concepts and methods on the basis of example ...

Revisiting the δ Scuti star FG Virginis using Kepler K2 and TESS data

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
FG Virginis is a δ Scuti variable star that was the target of several ground-based multisite photometric campaigns from 1992 to 2004. Over 75 pulsation frequencies were detected (Breger et al., Astron.

Seismic Signatures of Stellar Magnetic Activity—What Can We Expect From TESS?

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2019
Asteroseismic methods offer a means to investigate stellar activity and activity cycles as well as to identify those properties of stars which are crucial for the operation of stellar dynamos.
