Gonads and gametogenesis in astigmatic mites (Acariformes: Astigmata) [PDF]
Astigmatans are a large group of mites living in nearly every environment and exhibiting very diverse reproductive strategies. In spite of an uniform anatomical organization of their reproductive systems, gametogenesis in each sex is highly variable, leading to gamete formation showing many peculiar features and emphasizing the distinct position of ...

Tachornithoglyphus gen. nov.—a new genus of nidicolous Pyroglyphidae (Acariformes: Astigmata) [PDF]
Tachornithoglyphus gen. nov. (Acariformes: Pyroglyphidae) is established for Tachornithoglyphus tachornis (Cruz, Cuervo and Dusbabek, 1984), comb. nov. (transferred from Guatemalichus), collected from nests of the Antillean palm swift, Tachornis phoenicobia (Apodiformes: Apodidae) in Cuba.

Cardinium endosymbionts are widespread in synanthropic mite species (Acari: Astigmata) [PDF]
'Candidatus Cardinium' is an intracellular endosymbiont or parasite frequently occurring in invertebrates including mites and ticks. In this work we report Cardinium bacteria in Astigmata mites and explore their incidence in synanthropic species. Amplification of a 776 bp bacterial 16S rRNA gene fragment, using specific primers, enabled identification ...

Revision of Tyroborus Oudemans, 1924 (Acari: Astigmata: Acaridae) [PDF]
Tyroborus Oudemans is revised with new characters discovered to confirm the validity of the genus. The relationships between Tyroborus, Tyrophagus and Tyrolichus are discussed. The type species of Tyroborus, T. lini Oudemans, is redescribed. Tyrophagus miripes Athias-Henriot is transferred to Tyroborus and redescribed.

The First Report of Enterobacter Endosymbionts in the Dried Fruit Mite (Carpoglyphus lactis L.) (Acari, Acarida) Reared on Apricots in the Laboratory. [PDF]
This study reports for the first time the presence of Enterobacter hormaechei subsp. xiangfangensis as an endosymbiont in the dried fruit mite, Carpoglyphus lactis, reared on apricots under sterile laboratory conditions. Through surface sterilisation, bacterial culturing and molecular identification (16S rRNA and gapA gene analysis), the bacterial ...
