Messinian astrochronology of the Melilla Basin: Stepwise restriction of the Mediterranean–Atlantic connection through Morocco

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2006
The Melilla Basin (NE Morocco) formed the easternmost part of the Rifian Corridor, which was an important Mediterranean-Atlantic gateway during the Late Miocene. The sedimentary infill of the basin consists of a shallow marine, precession-related cyclic marl-diatomite succession, laterally grading into a marginal carbonate complex.

Astrochronology of the Frasnian-Famennian boundary section (Late Devonian) at Steinbruch Schmidt

2018
The Late Devonian mass extinction was the second of five global mass extinctionsthat shaped life on Earth during the Phanerozoic Eon, and occurred at the Frasnian–Famennian boundary (FFB, 372 Ma). Here, we focus on this time interval at thefamous Steinbruch Schmidt section in Germany.

Reducing time-scale uncertainty for the Devonian by integrating astrochronology and Bayesian statistics

Geology, 2014
Dealing with uncertainties is inherent to the scientific process. In the process of building geologic time scales, the reported uncertainties are at least as important as the estimates of the numerical ages. Currently all time scales for the Devonian are based on conventional age-depth models, constructed by linear or cubic interpolation between ...
