This paper analyzes which constellation characteristics provide the best global coverage at the lowest operational cost. Our analysis has found that geostationary and medium Earth orbit satellite constellations have the highest likelihood of profitability. LEO networks are more expensive, but if designed wisely, they can be competitive.

Crewed Missions to Mars: Modeling the Impact of Astrophysical Charged Particles on Astronauts and Their Health [PDF]
The impact of exposure to astrophysical ionizing radiation on astronaut health is one of the main concerns in planning crewed missions to Mars. Astronauts will be exposed to energetic charged particles from Galactic and Solar origin for a prolonged period with little protection from a thin spacecraft shield in transit and from the rarefied Martian ...

Enabling In-Situ Resources Utilisation by leveraging collaborative robotics and astronaut-robot interaction [PDF]
Space exploration and establishing human presence on other planets demand advanced technology and effective collaboration between robots and astronauts. Efficient space resource utilization is also vital for extraterrestrial settlements. The Collaborative In-Situ Resources Utilisation (CISRU) project has developed a software suite comprising five key ...

Interception of a bolide ? [PDF]
We present a review of the literature on the subject of a possible collision between the Earthand a meteorite or comet. We emphasize the global effects when sufficient energy is involved. We propose several types of human actions adapted to the physico-chemical nature of thecollider bolide.

A cross‐layer anti‐jamming method in satellite Internet
Abstract In view of the diverse jamming environment, the single‐level anti‐jamming method faces some challenges such as poor timeliness, high cost and poor effect. In this paper, routing delay, cost overhead and diversified jamming threats are comprehensively considered. In addition, a cross‐layer anti‐jamming method is proposed in the scenario of busy

Modeling the effectiveness of radiation shielding materials for astronaut protection on Mars [PDF]
The surface of Mars is bombarded by energetic charged particles of solar and cosmic origin with little shielding compared to Earth. As space agencies are planning for crewed missions to the red planet, a major concern is the impact of ionizing radiation on astronaut health.
