MOMOS: The Multi-Object MKID Optical Spectrometer Simulator and Data Reduction Package

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
The Multi-Object MKID Optical Spectrometer (MOMOS) is a proposed visible wavelength spectrograph that uses microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs) targeting an initial resolving power of 3500 for up to five fiber inputs.

Twin High-Resolution, High-Speed Imagers for the Gemini Telescopes: Instrument Description and Science Verification Results

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2021
Two new imaging instruments, ‘Alopeke and Zorro, were designed, built, and commissioned at the Gemini-North and Gemini-South telescopes in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Here we describe them and present the results from over a year of operation.

Small Solutions to the Large Telescope Problem: A Massively Replicated MEMS Spectrograph

open access: yes, 2008
In traditional seeing-limited observations the spectrograph aperture scales with telescope aperture, driving sizes and costs to enormous proportions. We propose a new solution to the seeing-limited spectrograph problem.

Impact of Lattice Heterogeneity on Broadband Optical Retardation in Stacked 2D Perovskite Single Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that interfaces between organic and inorganic layers govern long‐range stacking disorder and in‐plane anisotropy in 2D metal‐halide perovskites. By comparing single‐cation AB‐AB and ordered mixed‐cation ABCD‐ABCD stackings, SCXRD reveals enhanced mosaicity, while optics confirm high birefringence.

PROTOCALC, a W-band Polarized Calibrator for Cosmic Microwave Background Telescopes: Application to Simons Observatory and CLASS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
Current- and next-generation cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments will measure polarization anisotropies with unprecedented sensitivities. The need for high precision in these measurements underscores the importance of gaining a comprehensive ...

ORFEES – a radio spectrograph for the study of solar radio bursts and space weather applications

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2021
Radio bursts are sensitive tracers of non-thermal electron populations in the solar corona. They are produced by electron beams and shock waves propagating through the corona and the heliosphere, and by trapped electron populations in coronal mass ...

Adaptive Optics for Extremely Large Telescopes

open access: yes, 2019
Adaptive Optics has become a key technology for the largest ground-based telescopes currently under or close to begin of construction. Adaptive optics is an indispensable component and has basically only one task, that is to operate the telescope at its ...
