Modal analysis of astronomical bolometric interferometers

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2004
A procedure is described for modeling the behavior of astronomical bolometric interferometers. The scheme is based on the notion of eigenfields. The input and output eigenfields are those field distributions on the sky and at the detector to which the individual telescopes of an interferometer can couple.

A Michelson interferometer for astronomical applications

Infrared Physics, 1978
Abstract A Michelson interferometer is described which is suitable for absolute flux measurements in the far-infrared. We discuss the problems related to the calibration of the instrument, the evaluation of its efficiency, and the mathematical filtering of the interferograms.

Metrology and pointing for astronomical interferometers

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
Metrology and pointing will be enabling technologies for a new generation of astronomical missions having large and distributed apertures and delivering unprecedented performance. The UV interferometer Stellar Imager would study stellar dynamos by imaging magnetic activity on the disks of stars in our Galaxy.

Astronomical spectroscopy with an echelle-interferometer Cassegrain spectrograph

Applied Optics, 1982
A novel Cassegrain spectrograph has been constructed which may be used to produce either echelle spectra or high-spectral resolution Fabry-Perot interferograms. A description of the spectrograph design is given, and results from first observational tests are used to discuss the merits and limitations of the technique for studies in high-resolution ...

A Shearing Interferometer For Astronomical Wavefront Sensing

SPIE Proceedings, 1986
A wavefront sensor has been designed to measure wavefront aberrations occurring during astronomical observations with high spatial and temporal resolution. Results of laboratory experimentation are presented. The sensor consists of a grating lateral shear heterodyne interferometer using a solid-state detector array.

Compact Rotational Shearing Interferometer For Astronomical Applications

Optical Engineering, 1989
The fabrication and assembly of a compact rotational shearing interferometer with variable shear and phase compensation is described. The interferometer has been used for seeing measurements and interferometric imaging in optical astronomy.

An astronomical Fabry-Prot interferometer

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1968
A description is given of an improved version of Flynn's photo-electric, pressure-scanning, Fabry-Perot (F.-P.) interferometer which has been built for the purpose of studying line emission from diffuse gaseous nebulae. A discussion of the results obtained, and their reduction, is to be given in subsequent papers.

Monochromator–interferometer combination for submillimeter astronomical spectrometry from aircraft

Applied Optics, 1981
A simple interferometer placed in front of a liquid helium cooled grating instrument was constructed; we have attained a spectral resolution of ?0.1 cm(-1) in the wavelength range of ~64 cm(-1) (157 microm) during observations from the NASA Kuiper Airborne Observatory. Spectra obtained on the planetary nebula NGC 7027 are shown.
