Operational status of TAMA300 with the seismic attenuation system (SAS) [PDF]
TAMA300 has been upgraded to improve the sensitivity at low frequencies after the last observation run in 2004. To avoid the noise caused by seismic activities, we installed a new seismic isolation system —- the TAMA seismic attenuation system (SAS ...

Although the extragalactic nature of 3C 48 and other quasi stellar radio sources was discussed as early as 1960 by John Bolton and others, it was rejected largely because of preconceived ideas about what appeared to be unrealistically high radio and ...

A novel type of very long baseline astronomical intensity interferometer [PDF]
This article presents a novel type of very long baseline astronomical interferometer that uses the fluctuations, as a function of time, of the intensity measured by a quadratic detector, which is a common type of astronomical detector. The theory on which the technique is based is validated by laboratory experiments.

Integrated optics for astronomical interferometry. I. Concept and astronomical applications
We propose a new instrumental concept for long-baseline optical single-mode interferometry using integrated optics which were developed for telecommunication.

Spherical lamellar grating interferometer for airborne astronomical observations of far infrared objects [PDF]
A lamellar grating has been developed to be used for very far ir observations on the Gerard P. Kuiper Airborne Observatory. The design characteristics and performance during laboratory testing and initial observations of Jupiter at wavelengths between 50 microm and 500 microm are presented.

Confirmation of a Non‐Transiting Planet in the Habitable Zone of the Nearby M Dwarf L 98‐59
ABSTRACT Only 40 exoplanetary systems with five or more planets are currently known. These systems are crucial for our understanding of planet formation and planet‐planet interaction. The M dwarf L 98‐59 has previously been found to show evidence of five planets, three of which are transiting.

Liquid-helium-cooled Michelson interferometer [PDF]
Interferometer serves as a rocket-flight spectrometer for examination of the far infrared emission spectra of astronomical objects. The double beam interferometer is readily adapted to make spectral scans and for use as a detector of discrete line ...

Ultrabroadband Spacetime Nanoscopy of Terahertz Polaritons in a van der Waals Cavity
This work introduces SYnchrotron SpaceTimE Mapping (SYSTEM), which captures real‐time evolution of polariton wave packets with ∼10 nm spatial and sub‐100 fs temporal resolution across an ultrabroadband 5 to 50 THz range. Here, SYSTEM directly visualizes the creation, interference, and decay of multiple high‐quality Fabry‐Pérot phonon polariton cavity ...
