The technique and possibilities of astronomical spectrophotometry

Vistas in Astronomy, 1956
Abstract The present capabilities of photographic spectrophotometry are reviewed; with large reflectors and modern optics accurate work on all naked-eye stars is possible. Photo-electric spectral scanning is best suited for low-resolution; image intensification will be needed to avoid losses due to scanning.

Radio Astronomical Techniques

2011
An alternative method for detecting CMEs is known as interplanetary scintillation (IPS). This monitors fluctuations in distant low frequency radio sources, which when mapped across the sky can provide information on the density structure of a heliospheric transient. This chapter discusses the theory behind IPS and how it can be used to detect and track

Speckle Interferometric Technique for Astronomical Observations

Journal of Optics, 2003
The speckle imaging is a photographic technique that resolves objects viewed through severely distorted media. The results are insensitive to the errors caused by apparent size of the isoplanatic patch and the telescope aberrations. In this paper, a short descriptions of the atmospheric turbulence and its effect on the flat wavefront from a stellar ...

A Survey on GPU Techniques in Astronomical Data Processing

2013 International Conference on Computer Sciences and Applications, 2013
When GeForce256 was issued in 1999, NVIDIA first proposes the concept of GPU (Graphics Processor Unit), and then a large number of complex application requirements make the whole industry flourishing. This paper first presents the development of GPU, and then briefly introduces and compares two popular development platform of GPU: CUDA (Compute Unified

Optical technique for inner-scale measurement: possible astronomical applications

Applied Optics, 1997
We propose an optical technique that allows us to estimate the inner scale by measuring the variance of angle of arrival fluctuations of collimated laser beams of different sections w (i) passing through a turbulent layer. To test the potential efficiency of the system, we made measurements on a turbulent air flow generated in the laboratory, the ...

Analysis of RHESSI Flares Using aRadio Astronomical Technique

Solar Physics, 2007
We have used Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) modulation profiles in the 25 – 300 keV range to construct high-fidelity visibilities of 25 flares having at least two components. These hard X-ray visibilities, which are mathematically identical to the visibilities of radio imaging, were input to software developed for mapping solar ...

A Rapid Computer Search Technique for Astronomical Catalogs

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1964
During 1963 Hynek and Crull put a modified form of the Yale Catalogue of Bright Stars on punched cards. The writer has used a scan program to convert these cards to a binary tape, i.e., a tape on which the data are in a form immediately usable by the computer.

Data Reduction Techniques for Direct Astronomical Electronography

1972
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the data reduction techniques for direct astronomical electronography. There are a number of ways in which the retrieval of information from the Spectracon exposure can be attempted. A preliminary analysis showed that the shape of the star profile was not strongly dependent on the star's intensity. It is found
