Characterisation of red-giant stars in the public Kepler data
The first public release of long-cadence stellar photometric data collected by the NASA Kepler mission has now been made available. In this paper we characterise the red-giant (G-K) stars in this large sample in terms of their solar-like oscillations. We

Long-term careers of astronomers with doctoral degrees from prestigious vs. non-prestigious universities [PDF]
A comparison has been made of the long-term careers of complete samples of astronomers who earned their PhD's at one prestigious (P) and one nonprestigious (NP) university. The sample sizes are 106 (degrees 1952–88) and 94 (degrees 1966–88) respectively. For both groups, the vast majority are still engaged in some aspect of astronomy or closely related

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

2D Copper MOF Membranes with Precise Pores for Ionic Memory
. ABSTRACT Biological ion channels play a critical role in the complex physiological processes of living organisms. Inspired by these natural systems, we demonstrate the fabrication of ultrathin 2D copper‐based metal‐organic framework (CuMOF) films and their application to mimic key functionalities of biological membranes. Using a liquid–air interface

Cross-Identification Performance from Simulated Detections: GALEX and SDSS
We investigate the quality of associations of astronomical sources from multi-wavelength observations using simulated detections that are realistic in terms of their astrometric accuracy, small-scale clustering properties and selection functions.

Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum for Image Analysis
The Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum (SHWB), a rotation‐ and translation‐invariant descriptor that captures higher‐order (phase) correlations in signals, is introduced. Combining wavelet scattering, bispectral analysis, and group theory, SHWB achieves interpretable, data‐efficient representations and demonstrates competitive performance across texture,
