Computational Intelligence Challenges and Applications on Large-Scale Astronomical Time Series Databases [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine, 2014
Time-domain astronomy (TDA) is facing a paradigm shift caused by the exponential growth of the sample size, data complexity and data generation rates of new astronomical sky surveys. For example, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), which will begin operations in northern Chile in 2022, will generate a nearly 150 Petabyte imaging dataset of the ...

Identification of Milankovich′s cycle and establishment of astronomical ruler: A case study from the first section of the Sangonghe Formation of Well Mo 21 in Mosuowan area

open access: yes地质科技通报, 2021
According to Milankovich′s theory, astronomical forces influence the Earth′s climate change, and the sedimentary process records this change. According to Milankovich′s theory, cycles can be identified and separated, which is a powerful complement to ...

Extending the geological calibration of the geological time scale

open access: yes, 2002
This thesis arises from the fact that changes in the geometry of the Earth-Sun system, due to the gravitational interaction among the planets, cause quasi-cyclic climatic variations that are imprinted in the geological record.A speech-recognition method ...

Les effets optiques de la turbulence atmosphérique dans les images astronomiques

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique, 2023
The often blurry appearance of astronomical images at a telescope focus is attributed to atmospheric agitation. The study of the light propagation through the turbulent Earth atmosphere has made it possible to understand the existence of optical ...

Application of Semi-Airborne Frequency Domain Electromagnetic Data Based on Improved Ant-Colony-Optimized Wavelet Threshold Denoising Method

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
The semi-airborne frequency domain electromagnetic detection method is a popular electromagnetic detection method in which the transmission system is excited on the ground and the reception system coil is in the air to measure the vertical magnetic field

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

BP Gulf of Mexico Neogene Astronomically-tuned Time Scale (BP GNATTS) [PDF]

open access: yesGSA Bulletin, 2019
AbstractThis paper introduces an integrated Neogene microfossil biostratigraphic chart developed within post-merger BP for the Gulf of Mexico Basin and is the first published industrial framework “fully-tuned” to orbital periodicities. Astronomical-tuning was accomplished through a 15-year research program on the Ocean Drilling Program’s (ODP) Leg 154 ...

Enhanced Terahertz Thermoelectricity Via Engineered Van Hove Singularities and Nernst Effect in Moiré Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Moiré band engineering in graphene/hexagonal boron nitride–based superlattices unlocks van Hove singularities (VHSs) for terahertz (THz) optoelectronics. Tuning the Fermi level near these singularities, associated with secondary neutrality points (SNPs), enhances the photothermoelectric response.
