Statistical Complexity of Quantum Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
The statistical performance of quantum learning is investigated as a function of the number of training data N$N$, and of the number of copies available for each quantum state in the training and testing data sets, respectively S$S$ and V$V$. Indeed, the biggest difference in quantum learning comes from the destructive nature of quantum measurements ...

Quantum‐Noise‐Driven Generative Diffusion Models

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
Diffusion Models (DMs) are today a very popular class of generative models for Machine Learning (ML), using a noisy dynamics to learn an unknown density probability of a finite set of samples in order to generate new synthetic data. This study proposes a method to generalize them into the quantum domain by introducing and investigating what are termed ...

Exposing and Challenging “Grit” in Physics Education

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In STEM education, grit is increasingly the focus of research, with scholars and educators seeking to develop and test interventions that will enhance persistence. As part of the special issue Centering Affect and Emotion Toward Justice and Dignity in Science Education, in this paper, we use interviews with 12 white physics faculty to show ...

On the Formation and Dynamics of Micro Dew Droplets on Grass: the Role of Epicuticular Wax

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Despite their familiar appearance, dew droplets on grass emerge from a finely tuned interplay between environmental factors and surface architecture. Microscale analysis uncovers a key role of epicuticular wax micromorphologies in promoting the nucleation and growth of spherical droplets on the biphilic leaves of wheatgrass.

Amplification of Photochemical Chiroptical Activity of Chiral Gold Nanocubes

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
“Chiral gold nanocubes (AuNCs) enable polarization‐dependent plasmonic catalysis with exceptional photochemical circular dichroism. Circularly polarized light drives hot‐electron‐induced reactions with asymmetric reaction rates, monitored via operando SERS, with photochemical g‐factors exceeding optical limits.

Effect of Magnetic Anisotropy and Gradient‐Induced Dzyaloshinskii‐Moriya Interaction on the Formation of Magnetic Skyrmions

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Magnetic force microscopy of gradient‐induced CoPt films reveals that magnetic skyrmion size and density vary with film thickness, gradient polarity, and applied magnetic field. An increased skyrmion density is observed in films exhibiting higher magnetic anisotropy.
