Putting the pieces together: the systematic development of a software defined radio toolflow for the Rhino project

open access: yes, 2011
This dissertation is concerned with the thesis that it is possible for a software defined radio system that has been described in accordance with synchronous data flow theory to be implemented upon a reconfigurable computing ...

Tracing the evolutionary history of the morpho‐anatomy of baculum in primates

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Animal morphology reflects both evolutionary history and present‐day adaptation. Male mammal copulatory structures such as the baculum (penile bone) are ideal for studying these processes because of their complexity and high interspecific variability. In primates, however, research has focused mostly on baculum length.

Differencing and Coadding JWST Images with Matched Point-spread Function

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present an algorithm to derive difference images for data taken with JWST with matched point-spread functions (PSFs). It is based on the saccadic fast Fourier transform method but with revisions to accommodate the rotations and spatial variations of ...

FIRST STEPS TOWARDS OBTAINING CULTURAL ASTRONOMY SOFTWARE

open access: yes, 2018
A new software tool is introduced in this paper. It renders the local horizon for a terrestrial observer and the sky tracks of celestial objects that are of interest in cultural astronomy, with sufficient precision for historical times, by using open-source software tools and geographical data.

Quantification of Palmar and Digital Epidermal Thickness and Sweat Duct Density

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Palmar digital skin, with its high density of epidermal sweat glands and unique stratum corneum, derives its autonomic innervation from peripheral nerves. Understanding the changes to these structures could serve as objective proxy markers following peripheral nerve injury and interventions to promote regeneration.

Non‐negative Gaussian estimation of variance components in random effects models

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract When used to estimate variance components (VCs), confidence intervals (CIs) can be truncated at zero, have a point estimate not in the quoted CI, be empty with positive probability, or be all‐inclusive. This is because they have conflicting dual roles, since they are considered to cover the parameter with a specified probability while also ...

Class Symbolic Regression: Gotta Fit ’Em All

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We introduce “Class Symbolic Regression” (Class SR), the first framework for automatically finding a single analytical functional form that accurately fits multiple data sets—each realization being governed by its own (possibly) unique set of fitting ...

Talin1 Adhesion Morphology and Colocalization With Tensin3 Are Largely Unaffected by Polyacrylamide Substrate Stiffness

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cells sense the stiffness of their extracellular matrix (ECM) and adapt their behavior accordingly. We investigated how ECM stiffness affects the spatial organization of talin1, a key mechanosensitive focal adhesion protein. Using polyacrylamide (PA) hydrogels with tunable stiffnesses (0.2–188 kPa), we analyzed cell morphology, migration ...

BASSET: Bandpass-adaptive Single-pulse Search Toolkit—Optimized Subband Pulse Search Strategies for Faint Narrowband Fast Radio Bursts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The existing single-pulse search algorithms for fast radio bursts (FRBs) do not adequately consider the frequency bandpass pattern of the pulse, rendering them incomplete for the relatively narrow-spectrum detection of pulses.
