Exploring Magnetic Reconnection in the Collisional Ionosphere of Mars With MAVEN

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 22, 28 November 2025.
Abstract Magnetic reconnection in collisional plasmas has been widely studied in solar and laboratory plasma disciplines, but in situ measurements in space plasmas have rarely been utilized to explore this reconnection regime. Here we study collisional effects on magnetic reconnection in the Martian ionosphere by analyzing in situ data obtained by the ...

Energetic Ion Losses Observed During Juno's Close Encounter With Europa

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 21, 16 November 2025.
Abstract We present energetic ion observations made by Juno during its close Europa flyby on 29 September 2022. These data show significant reductions in the ion intensities occurring in the moon's geometric wake region. The most significant losses occur for locally mirroring ions with gyrophases on the anti‐Jovian facing side of the wake.

Diurnal Variations in Background and Urban NO2 Estimated From TEMPO

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 21, 16 November 2025.
Abstract The hourly tropospheric NO2 vertical column density values measured by Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) were used to study the NO2 diurnal variability in 32 urban areas. A recently developed algorithm isolated three components in tropospheric NO2 data: background NO2, NO2 from urban emissions, and from industrial point ...

Flux Tube Properties and Interchange Instabilities in Jupiter's Middle Magnetosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 21, 16 November 2025.
Abstract In Jupiter's magnetosphere, the outward transport of Io‐genic plasma and the planetward injection of energetic particles are facilitated by flux tube interchange motion driven by centrifugal instabilities. Flux tube content and entropy are two competing key quantities that determine the behavior of the system.
