Observations of Lenticular Galaxies at the 6-m Telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory [PDF]
This is a historical review covering the last 30 years of the observational study of lenticular galaxies at the 6m telescope BTA of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The development of spectroscopic techniques at the BTA has allowed to get comprehensive information about this class of stellar systems, starting ...

Enhanced Radiation Exposure of Airline Crew and Passengers During the May 2024 Geomagnetic Storm
Abstract Enhanced radiation at aviation altitudes is a concern for flight crew and passengers. During space weather events, solar flares and coronal mass ejection (CME) driven shocks are sources of energetic particles that can reach Earth's near‐space environment and interact with its magnetic field and atmosphere.

Applications of the IGIMF-theory to the astrophysics of galaxies
The functional form of the galaxy-wide stellar initial mass function is of fundamental importance for understanding galaxies. So far this stellar initial mass function has been assumed to be identical to the IMF observed directly in star clusters. But because stars form predominantly in embedded groups rather than uniformly distributed over the whole ...

Astrophysical Distance Scale. II. Application of the JAGB Method: A Nearby Galaxy Sample
Abstract We apply the near-infrared J-region asymptotic giant branch (JAGB) method, recently introduced by Madore & Freedman, to measure the distances to 14 nearby galaxies out to 4 Mpc. We use the geometric detached eclipsing binary (DEB) distances to the LMC and SMC as independent zero-point calibrators. We find excellent agreement

Abstract A number of mechanisms have been suggested to operate within the terrestrial bow shock to redistribute energy contained in the incoming solar wind flow. The majority of mechanisms involve the generation of turbulence while some are based on particle motion alone.

Galclaim: A tool to identify host galaxy of astrophysical transient sources
The Galclaim software is designed to identify association between astrophysical transient sources and host galaxy by computing the probability of chance alignment. It is distributed as an open source Python software. It is already used to identify, confirm or reject host galaxy candidates of GRBs and to validate or invalidate transient candidates in ...

Abstract Analysis of space weathering features in lunar regolith using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) allows researchers to characterize the surface exposure timescale of individual grains from the Moon. TEM analysis of regolith grains from Apollo 17 scoop samples, collected from five different locations in the Taurus‐Littrow Valley (TLV), each

The astrophysical behavior of open clusters along the Milky Way Galaxy
The main aim of this paper is to study the astrophysical behavior of open clusters' properties along the Milky Way Galaxy. Near-IR JHK (2MASS) photometry has been used for getting a homogeneous Catalog of 263 open clusters' parameters, which are studied for the first time by the author through the last five years.

Formation of Asteroid (16) Psyche by a Giant Impact
Abstract Asteroid (16) Psyche is the largest likely metal‐rich asteroid in the Solar System and the target of the NASA Psyche mission. The mission aims to determine whether the asteroid is the core of a differentiated planetesimal that lost its mantle via a giant impact.
