Gravity and Magnetic Field Signatures in Hydrothermally Affected Regions on Mars

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Multiple lines of evidence indicate that liquid water‐rock interactions occurred on ancient Mars, particularly within the crust, where hydrothermal systems have been hypothesized. Such hydrothermal circulation (HC) can significantly lower temperatures in the crust, thereby restricting the viscoelastic relaxation of impact craters. Craters with

Modeling Lake Bonneville Paleoshoreline Erosion at Mars‐Like Rates and Durations: Implications for the Preservation of Erosional Martian Shorelines and Viability as Evidence for a Martian Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Mars may have had an ancient ocean filling its northern lowlands until around 3.5 billion years ago. The existence or lack of such a large body of water would have important implications on the ancient martian climate, landscapes, and habitability.

Data‐Driven Transfer Functions From Differential Magnetometer Measurements to Enhance GIC Model Validation Capability: A Case Study in the Spanish Power Grid

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) are unwanted currents flowing in long grounded conductors because of space weather phenomena. Example GICs are those flowing in power transmission lines via grounded transformer neutrals. Prediction models, used to foresee the amplitudes and waveforms of those currents and to identify weak points in ...

NAIRAS Version 3 Atmospheric Ionizing Radiation Validation: Comparisons to RaD‐X Measurements

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract The Nowcast of Aerospace Ionizing RAdiation System (NAIRAS) model predicts dosimetric and radiative flux quantities for assessing human radiation exposure levels and radiation effects on flight electronic systems from the surface of the Earth to deep space. NAIRAS version 3 includes many updates and improvements to the model.

Commitment to Advance Excellence and Inclusion in the Earth and Space Sciences Scholarly Publications

open access: yesAGU Advances, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Addressing global challenges and advancing knowledge in the Earth and space sciences requires an equitable, diverse, and inclusive scholarly community where researchers must be freely able to conduct, collaborate on, share, review, and discuss their research on important economic and societal topics such as climate change.

Different Faces of the Martian Magnetosphere

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract The Martian magnetosphere contains components of the induced and intrinsic magnetospheres. Since we can not get a global snapshot of the magnetosphere we use a statistical picture based on a large number of measurements. Depending on the choice of coordinate system and the data selection we can observe different faces of the Martian ...

Should We Monitor Space Weather Effects on Surveillance Technologies Used in Air Traffic Management?—First Results

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Space weather events can disrupt satellite navigation, potentially compromising also the accuracy of real‐time flight tracking via Automatic Dependent Surveillance‐Broadcast (ADS‐B). This in turn could limit the situational awareness of pilots and reduce the efficiency of the air traffic management.

Nowcasting Solar Energetic Particle Events for Mars Missions

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract In addition to the omnipresent Galactic Cosmic Rays, sudden Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) events present considerable health hazards for manned space missions. These events not only contribute to an increased long‐term cancer risk, but can, in extreme cases, cause acute radiation syndromes.
