A Physics‐Based Frequency‐Temperature Seismic Anelastic Attenuation Model for Planetary Ice Shells

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Intrinsic attenuation in planetary ices remains poorly constrained at seismic frequencies and low temperatures, limiting quantitative predictions of wave propagation in icy moons. Existing models typically rely on constant‐Q, or power‐law formulations that lack microphysical grounding and fail to capture the strong temperature sensitivity of ...

Supervised Machine Learning Approach to Iron Meteorite Classification Using Random Forest: A Predictive Model to Classify Ungrouped Irons

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Iron meteorites provide insight into the formation processes of planetary cores from the early Solar System. Through further classifying individual irons into specific groups, which are assumed to represent a common parent body, greater information can be yielded into the formation processes of those bodies.

Oxygen Fugacity Buffers and an Interactive Calculator

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Oxygen fugacity buffers are equilibrium phase assemblages that constrain the chemical potential of oxygen. They may be coexisting minerals or fluids, or their metastable extrapolations. Oxygen fugacity values vary as a function of pressure and temperature, such that raw numbers often have little interpretive value.

An Open‐Source Markov Chain Monte Carlo Inversion Software for the Analysis of Experimental Rock Deformation Data

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Despite its importance in modeling the interior dynamics of a planet, our understanding of interior rheology remains incomplete because of several reasons, including insufficient experimental data and inadequate analysis of the available data.

Highly Enriched and Heterogeneous Mantle Signals Recorded in Mantle Pyroxenite Veins

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract The Earth's mantle is inherently heterogeneous, reflecting ongoing mantle depletion and crustal recycling driven by plate tectonics. Radiogenic isotopes in oceanic basalts are commonly used to characterize mantle reservoirs, but the full chemical diversity of mantle‐derived melts may be obscured by magma mixing during melt transport and ...

A Contrasting TEC Behavior Over the Low‐Latitude Post‐Midnight Sector During Recovery Phases of May and October 2024 Storms: Possible Role of PPEF, DDEF, and O/N2

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract The present study reports on the variability of the post‐midnight ionosphere over the low‐latitude sector during the recovery phases of the May and October 2024 storms. Multi‐instrument observations, comprising global navigation satellite system total electron content (TEC), F‐layer peak height, electron density profiles, and column O/N2 ...
