Asylum Recognition Rates in Western Europe - Their Determinants, Variation and Lack of Convergence [PDF]

open access: yes
Substantial variation in recognition rates for asylum claims from the same countries of origin and therefore prima facie equal merit subjects refugees to unfair and discriminatory treatment.

Gold Nanoparticle Adsorption and Uptake are Directed by Particle Capping Agent

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
This study explores how ligand‐coated gold nanoparticles (NPs) interact with model membranes. Combining atomic force microscopy (AFM) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, it shows how coating properties affect adsorption. The AFM‐MD approach offers a predictive platform for nanoparticle design and toxicity, enabling tailored nanomedicine ...

Phase‐Pure 1T’ Molybdenum Disulfide Synthesis and Stabilization

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
The synthesis and stabilization of phase‐pure 1T’ MoS2 or other transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are achieved by a self‐intercalation method. During this mass‐production‐available process, intercalation and formation of 1T’ TMDs are conducted simultaneously, leading to uniform defect‐free intercalation without changing in‐plane structure, and ...

Macroscale Superlubricity with a High Load‐Carrying Capacity Enabled by Nitrogen‐Doped Graphene Quantum Dots in Lubricated Silicon‐Doped Amorphous Carbon Films

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
Achieving superlubricity in aqueous‐lubricated systems for energy conservation remains challenging. Here, a newly developed nanolubricant based on nitrogen‐doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs) enables robust superlubricity between steel and silicon‐doped amorphous carbon film.

Biomass Nanofiber‐Assembled Superhydrophobic Aerogels with Simultaneously Enhanced Mechanical Strength and Shape Recovery

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
This study proposes a hierarchical fabrication strategy for biomass‐derived aerogels. Chitosan and sodium alginate are assembled into nanofibers via ultrasonication, then forming an anisotropic honeycomb‐like microstructure through freeze casting. Methyltrimethoxysilane modification further enhances the aerogel's strength (105.7 kPa at 80% strain) and ...
