The Fragility of Trust: Interpersonal Encounters, Institutional Distrust, and Conditional Spillovers in the Area of Social Service Delivery

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines social assistance for vulnerable families at the frontline level of service delivery, exploring how citizens' trust and distrust are shaped within this administrative context. It addresses three questions: Do citizens distinguish between trust and distrust in frontline workers and public institutions when reporting on their

IMF Conditionality on Corruption: The Politics of Good Governance

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We offer a systematic analysis of IMF loan conditionality on corruption and argue that the Fund's pursuit of anti‐corruption measures is tempered by two political costs. First, because corruption is politically sensitive, the IMF risks destabilizing recipient governments and provoking crises.

What Candidates Benefit From Corruption? Opportunities for Corruption and the Prevalence of Candidates With Business Ties

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Which candidates benefit from corruption and favoritism in public procurement? While existing studies show that politically connected firms profit from corruption risks in public procurement, we know less about whether these risks also increase the prevalence of political candidates with ties to business.

Public Procurement's Long COVID: Emergency Responses and Shifting Corruption Risks in Europe

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The COVID‐19 pandemic caused an unprecedented surge in spending to combat the pandemic with widespread accusations of corruption. The magnitude, drivers, and trajectory of corruption across the pandemic response remain underexplored. This paper approximates the impacts of the pandemic on public procurement corruption risks and the mechanisms ...

Exploring Recreational Conflict on Shared Backcountry Tramping and Mountain Biking Tracks in Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Geographer, Volume 82, Issue 3, December 2026.
ABSTRACT In a move away from exclusive use by modality, a number of shared tramping and mountain biking tracks have been developed in New Zealand. We ask: On shared tracks, what tensions arise and how are they experienced? Using data from online surveys of track‐users, we examine bikers' and trampers' perspectives and experiences of conflict.

Optimal Fisheries Management Using Transferable Shares of a Convex Tax

open access: yesNatural Resource Modeling, Volume 39, Issue 4, November 2026.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we propose a fishery control scheme that happens to be first best in the context of a Gordon‐Schaefer model with asymmetric information about effort/harvesting costs. It is widely acknowledged that in the absence of regulations, competition between vessels leads to a competitive game wherein the outcome is inefficient.

Cooling Holes in Polymer Spur Gears: A Critical Analysis of Heat Dissipation Benefits and Mesh Stiffness Penalties

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 143, Issue 38, October 10, 2026.
Cooling holes provide a simple passive cooling strategy for polymer spur gears, reducing maximum operating temperature by up to 9.39% while introducing a measurable gear mesh stiffness penalty. A validated response‐surface model reveals how hole size and location govern this thermal–mechanical trade‐off, enabling design optimization for thermally and ...

Counting cases, conserving species: addressing highly pathogenic avian influenza in wildlife

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 2190-2213, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has become a critical threat to wildlife, shifting from a seasonal epizootic to a persistent, year‐round panzootic with global consequences. Here, we summarise the origin, evolutionary mechanisms, and expanding host range of the current H5N1 virus (clade 2.3.4.4b) and assess its impact on wildlife. Over

Outracing a National Level Model Racing Car Champion: A Hybrid Model‐Based Data‐Driven Approach

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 7, Page 4821-4835, October 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper discusses lap time optimization, focusing on a single lap without considering opponents in autonomous racing. The paper presents a control and optimization architecture composed of a model‐based low level controller and a higher level iterative learning algorithm with the goal of obtaining the fastest qualifying lap in autonomous ...
