Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, 1987Bacteriuria in the elderly is common and usually asymptomatic. In the absence of symptoms or obstructive uropathy (which is rare in women), bacteriuria in the elderly appears to be a benign disease, and therefore antimicrobial therapy is probably not warranted.
