Accounting for animal health in efficiency analysis: An application to Swedish dairy farms

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Poor animal health is a central concern in modern livestock production. Despite the necessity to incorporate animal health in efficiency analysis, the theoretical and empirical developments are limited on this subject. This article appropriately characterizes the axiomatic properties of animal health within a production framework.

"An Asymptotic Expansion Approach to Currency Options with a Market Model of Interest Rates under Stochastic Volatility Processes of Spot Exchange Rates" [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes an asymptotic expansion scheme of currency options with a libor market model of interest rates and stochastic volatility models of spot exchange rates.

Redistributive land reforms, agricultural productivity, and structural change: New cross‐national evidence

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Large‐scale land reforms constitute a substantial redistribution of wealth and reallocation of agricultural land, which is a major form of asset and production input in developing countries. While land redistribution (from the rich to the poor) remains a highly controversial issue, extensive evidence on its effect is limited.

Edgeworth Expansions for Spectral Density Estimates and Studentized Sample Mean - (Now published in Economic Theory, 17 (2001), pp.497-539. [PDF]

open access: yes
We establish valid Edgeworth expansions for the distribution of smoothed nonparametric spectral estimates, and of studentized versions of linear statistics such as the same mean, where the studentization employs such a nonparametric spectral estimate ...

The role of venture‐financed startups in innovation for US agriculture

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract To evaluate the role played by startup companies in the innovation ecosystem of US agriculture, we compile a unique dataset of 6024 new entrants founded 1987–2019 that details their financing lifecycles, annual economic performance, and patenting activities.

Long‐term demography and spatial genetic structure reveal mechanisms of Sassafras albidum population persistence through clonality

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Vegetative regeneration is a key mechanism of woody plant persistence in forest ecosystems, and the coupled roles of basal sprouting and clonal growth in shaping long‐term population dynamics have been understudied. Basal sprouting replaces stems at fixed ramet locations, whereas clonal growth via root suckering produces spatially ...

Log-Density Deconvolution by Wavelet Thresholding [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes a new wavelet-based method for deconvolving a density. The estimator combines the ideas of nonlinear wavelet thresholding with periodised Meyer wavelets and estimation by information projection.

Pollination by long‐proboscid horseflies and its implications for reproductive isolation among coflowering Satyrium orchids in South Africa

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Floral adaptations to pollinators can drive lineage diversification and promote coexistence of species. We investigated the reproductive biology of Satyrium longicolle, a South African orchid that we hypothesized to belong to a long‐proboscid horsefly pollination guild and examined overlap of pollinators and floral traits among ...

Goodness of Fit Tests via Exponential Series Density Estimation [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper explores the properties of a new nonparametric goodness of fit test, based on the likelihood ratio test of Portnoy (1988). It is applied via the consistent series density estimator of Crain (1974) and Barron and Sheu (1991).

Research on Diaphragm Pump Fault Diagnosis Method Based on Res‐DCB‐Net

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nonstationary pressure pulsation signals of diaphragm pumps contain strong background noise and coupled characteristics. This makes it challenging to extract incipient fault features and to decouple faults with similar physical mechanisms. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a spatiotemporal fault diagnosis model named Res‐DCB ...
