Dynamical Models of Asymptotic-Giant-Branch Stars [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1974
The dynamical behaviour of the envelopes of four asymptotic-giant-branch stars of composition (X, Z)=(0.68, 0.02) and luminosity log L/L⊙ = 3.41, 3.60, 3.85 and 4.14 has been studied. At log L/L⊙ = 3.41, the envelope pulsates in the first-overtone mode and exhibits properties similar to those of the Mira variables.

THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF THE PHOTOMETRIC VARIABILITY AND CLASSIFICATION OF SEMIREGULAR PULSATING ASYMPTOTIC GIANTS BRANCH STARS

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2012
The modern review of the stars which are located at the position of asymptotic giant branch at the HRdiagram is presented. The most interesting problems connected to these objects are noted, as well as attention is paid to classification and to the ...

Asymptotic giant branch stars near the sun

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1992
The available red and near infrared photometry of M, S, and C stars in the Bright Star Catalogue is discussed on the basis of the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) ledge in the temperature-luminosity plane that was previously found to satisfy all old disk population objects.

Spitzer observations of large amplitude variables in the LMC and IC 1613

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The 3.6 and 4.5 ìm characteristics of asymptotic giant branch variables in the LMC and IC 1613 are discussed. For C-rich Mira variables there is a very clear periodluminosity-colour relation, where the [3.6] .

Extending the cosmic distance ladder two orders of magnitude with strongly lensed Cepheids, carbon AGB stars, and RGB stars

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Gravitational lensing by galaxy clusters can create extreme magnification (μ > 1000) near the cluster caustics, thereby enabling detections of individual luminous stars in high-redshift background galaxies.

A sequence of nitrogen-rich very red giants in the globular cluster NGC 1851

open access: yes, 2014
We present the abundances of N in a sample of 62 stars on the red giant branch (RGB) in the peculiar globular cluster NGC 1851. The values of [N/Fe] ratio were obtained by comparing the flux measured in the observed spectra with that from synthetic ...

Luminosities and temperatures of the reddest stars in three LMC clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Infrared observations in the 1.2-2.2 µm region are presented for 12 of the reddest stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) clusters NGC 1783,1846, and 1978.
