An Asymptotically Optimal Set Approach for Simulation Optimization

INFORMS Journal on Computing, 2019
We propose an asymptotically optimal set (AOS) approach for solving stochastic optimization problems with discrete or continuous feasible regions. Our AOS approach is a framework for designing provably convergent algorithms that are adaptive in seeking new points and in resampling or discarding already sampled points.

Asymptotic Optimality of Isoperimetric Constants

Journal of Theoretical Probability, 2011
This paper deals with the \(L^2\)-geometrically ergodic convergence in terms of the isoperimetric method. The geometric method is well known and has been used a lot in the last two decades. As illustrated by some examples in Section 5 of the paper, the method can be asymptotically optimal, even though this does not happen often. Generally speaking, the

Asymptotic Optimality Conditions

2001
Optimality of a feasible point in convex programming has been characterized in Section 3.4 using the minimal index set of active constraints, i.e., using the constraints that are equal to zero on the entire feasible set. Now a different strategy will be used.

Asymptotically optimal block quantization

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1979
In 1948 W. R. Bennett used a companding model for nonuniform quantization and proposed the formula D \: = \: \frac{1}{12N^{2}} \: \int \: p(x) [ E(x) ]^{-2} \dx for the mean-square quantizing error where N is the number of levels, p (x) is the probability density of the input, and E \prime (x) is the slope of the compressor curve.

The asymptotically optimal tests

Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series D (The Statistician), 1997
This paper reviews the asymptotically optimal tests: the likelihood ratio, score and Wald tests, with emphasis on the score and Wald tests. These tests are also given after a linear transformation of the parameter space. Use of this approach often simplifies the calculations involved, especially when multiple tests are to be derived.
