Robust Sampling-based Motion Planning with Asymptotic Optimality Guarantees

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents a novel sampling-based planner, CC-RRT*, which generates robust, asymptotically optimal trajectories in real-time for linear Gaussian systems subject to process noise, localization error, and uncertain environmental constraints.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Asymptotically Optimal Box Packing Theorems [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2008
Given a protoset of $d$-dimensional polyominoes, we ask which boxes can be packed by the protoset. In some cases, it may be too difficult to give a complete answer to this question, so we ask the easier question about determining all sufficiently large boxes that can be packed.

Hybrid Auxetic Architectures: Integrating Curvature‐Driven Design for Enhanced Mechanical Tunability and Structural Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Curvature‐tuned auxetic lattices are designed, fabricated, and mechanically characterized to reveal how geometric curvature governs stretchability, stress redistribution, and Poisson's ratio evolution. Photoelastic experiments visualize stress pathways, while hyperelastic simulations quantify deformation mechanics.

Efficient and Asymptotically Optimal Vehicle Motion Planning With Stochastic Template-Based RRT*

open access: yesIEEE Access
Kinodynamic motion planning plays a vital role in robotics, particularly in autonomous driving, where planned trajectories must satisfy kinematic and dynamic constraints while ensuring both safety and efficiency.

On optimality gaps in the Halfin--Whitt regime

open access: yes, 2012
We consider optimal control of a multi-class queue in the Halfin--Whitt regime, and revisit the notion of asymptotic optimality and the associated optimality gaps.

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

Optimal Results and Numerical Simulations for Flow Shop Scheduling Problems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
This paper considers the m-machine flow shop problem with two objectives: makespan with release dates and total quadratic completion time, respectively. For Fm|rj|Cmax, we prove the asymptotic optimality for any dense scheduling when the problem scale is

Heavy traffic analysis of open processing networks with complete resource pooling: Asymptotic optimality of discrete review policies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a class of open stochastic processing networks, with feedback routing and overlapping server capabilities, in heavy traffic. The networks we consider satisfy the so-called complete resource pooling condition and therefore have one-dimensional
