Take flight: predation risk induces wing polyphenism and dispersal in the aphid Myzus persicae

Predator risk above a critical density induces winged morphs in Myzus persicae, promoting dispersal and reducing predation compared with wingless aphids. This density‐dependent phenotypic plasticity enhances survival but may compromise biological control by facilitating aphid dispersal.

Rodent outbreaks have significant socio‐economic impacts worldwide, and anticipation is crucial for timely management decisions. We combined rainfall and periodicity data to provide an early warning signal of vole population growth in Mediterranean farmlands, a year in advance of a peak.
