Trophic interactions among sympatric zooplanktivorous fish species in volume change conditions in a large, shallow, tropical lake

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
Significant reductions in the water volume of shallow lakes impose a restriction on species segregation promoting more interactions in the trophic relationships.

Data from: It's a family matter: molecular phylogenetics of Atheriniformes and the polyphyly of surf silversides (Family: Notocheiridae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Phylogenetic relationships among families of Atheriniformes have long been problematic. The affinities of one of the most enigmatic lineages, surf silversides (Notocheiridae), have proven particularly elusive due to this taxon’s ...

Morphological and genetic variation in seven species of the endangered Chirostoma "humboldtianum species group" (Atheriniformes: Atherinopsidae).

We evaluated the influence of water temperature (Tw) on the energy acquisition and use in the chilean silverside Basilichthys australis (Eigenmann 1927), an endemic species inhabiting freshwater ecosystems in Chile. We tested the effect of Tw (11.5, 14.0,

Implications of continuous feeding on oxygen demand in an agastric short intestine fish (Teleostei: Atherinopsidae) [PDF]

open access: yes
Continuous illumination and increased feeding periods have enhanced growth in commercial fish species. However, oxygen consumption under these conditions has yet to be previously assessed in agastric short-intestine fish.

Oocyte structure and ultrastructure in the Mexican silverside fish Chirostoma humboldtianum (Atheriniformes: Atherinopsidae)

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2008
the structural and ultrastructural features of gonads from endemic Mexican fish have received scarce attention. This study describes the histological and ultrastructural characteristics of the oocyte in Chirostoma humboldtianum. The ovary is asynchronic,
