Forage fishes are a critical food web link in marine ecosystems, forming surface‐level forage fish aggregations (FFAs) that represent a concentrated source of available prey for surface‐ and shallow‐foraging marine predators. We used hierarchical Bayesian models to examine the oceanographic drivers of forage fish community distributions from bottom ...

Overlooked Invaders? Ecological Impacts of Non‐Game, Native Transplant Fishes in the United States
Nonnative fishes can cause ecological impacts as invasive species, but identifying which nonnative species have harmful impacts is critical to prioritizing management and policy responses. Here, we characterized the state of knowledge on the impacts of a possibly overlooked group of invasive species in the United States: non‐game native transplant ...

Age and growth of three Odontesthes species from Southern Brazil (Atherinopsidae), with reference to phylogenetic constraints in their life-history [PDF]
The age and growth of three silverside species are described, and a discussion on possible phylogenetic constraints on life-history characteristics is presented.

Length–weight relation for seven Neotropical freshwater fish species (Actinopterygii) endemic to Central America [PDF]
In the presently reported study, we estimated length–weight relation (LWRs) for seven species of freshwater fishes from Central America. Samples were collected using seines from 60 sites across Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama during field expeditions ...

Development and validation of two environmental DNA assays for American Eel (Anguilla rostrata)
We developed and validated two species‐specific qPCR markers to detect American Eel environmental DNA. Each marker was highly specific (no amplification using 124 differing spp.) and sensitive (LOD and LOQ values of 2.8‐50 copies) to American Eel DNA. In‐situ testing of water samples collected from 35 sites on the East Coast revealed that sites (n = 11)

Abstract Aim Migratory freshwater fishes are those that must access discrete habitats to complete their life cycles. Freshwater fish migrations occur around the world and provide numerous ecosystem services for humans and natural systems; however, many migratory species are in decline globally.

Microplastics in freshwater fishes: Occurrence, impacts and future perspectives
Abstract Microplastics (MPs) are small, plastic particles of various shapes, sizes and polymers. Although well studied in marine systems, their roles and importance in freshwater environments remain uncertain. Nevertheless, the restricted ranges and variable traits of freshwater fishes result in their communities being important receptors and strong ...
