Detection of a Single Microdose of Testosterone and Recombinant EPO in Healthy Volunteers

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Exogenous T was detected with IRMS regardless of T/E elevation—high serum T indicative for IRMS. rhEPO was detected in urine for 72 h in ITP and CP, and Tasso showed less sensitivity than previous DBS devices tested. ABSTRACT Doping with testosterone (T) and erythropoietin (EPO) in low doses (micro‐doping) is a challenge to detect.

Estimation of Plasma Volume by Machine Learning to Improve the Interpretation of the Athlete Biological Passport

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
A new machine learning model for plasma volume (PV) estimation was applied within the ABP framework. PV estimation was applied through visual displays or corrected ABP thresholds. With a favorable assessment from ABP experts, these results support further application of this model in the presence of specific confounding factors.

mRNA Biomarkers in Dried Blood Spots May Improve Detection of Autologous Blood Micro‐Transfusions Using an Individualized Approach

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
This study shows that measuring ALAS2 mRNA expression from dried blood spots (DBS) can sensitively identify autologous blood micro‐transfusions (ABMTs) ABMTs with > 95% sensitivity and specificity through individualized analysis. These results highlight ALAS2 mRNA in DBS as a promising tool to strengthen anti‐doping efforts against small‐volume ...

Biosynthesis and Identification of Clenbuterol Metabolites in Urine and In Vitro Microsome Incubation Samples Using UHPLC‐Q‐Exactive Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry: A Comparison Between Human and Bovine Metabolism

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Clenbuterol metabolism was studied in bovine and human urine using LC‐Q‐Exactive‐Orbitrap MS; eight metabolites were identified in human and bovine samples as well as a novel N‐methylated form. Four urinary metabolites specific to cattle were detected and identified.
