Productivity dynamics of Atlantic cod
Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2014Productivity is a central determinant of population dynamics with consequences for population viability, resilience to exploitation, and extinction. In fish, the strength of a cohort is typically established during early life stages. Traditional approaches to measuring productivity do not allow for interannual variation in the maximum reproductive rate,

Atlantic cod cDNA encoding a psychrophilic chymotrypsinogen
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1994A cDNA clone encoding a psychrophilic cod chymotrypsinogen has been isolated and characterized. The predicted amino acid sequence reveals a preproenzyme of 263 amino acids containing a unique 18 residue signal sequence. Amino acid sequence identity between the cod and mammalian chymotrypsinogens is 64-68%.

North Atlantic cod: the broad canvas
2023The catches of North Atlantic cod in the twentieth century are reviewed, with emphasis on the period since 1950 when landings statistics arc considered to have been highly reliable. Time series of landings data arc used to describe the historic development of the fisheries and the main events affecting catches.

Microorganisms From Atlantic Cod
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1947Five hundred and ninety-five organisms isolated from six cod were members of the genera Micrococcus, Microbacterium, Achromobacter, Pseudomonas, Flavobacterium, Proteus, Alkaligenes, moulds and yeast-like organisms. A new species, Microbacterium piscarium, is described.

Fecundity of Atlantic cod from the Newfoundland and Labrador area was investigated in relation to fish length, weight, and age. Variations in fecundity were best explained in terms of size, either length or weight. The fecundity–length relationship was adequately described by the simple allometry formula; fecundity–weight by an arithmetic straight ...

Respiration of the Atlantic Cod
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1963Measurements of routine and standard rates of oxygen consumption of various sized cod at temperatures between 3 and 15 °C revealed a well-marked size effect; small cod consume oxygen at a greater rate per unit weight than do large ones. Increases in temperature raise oxygen consumption in starved and fed fish.

Freeze-drying of Atlantic Cod Steaks
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1967A preliminary study was made of the freeze-drying of steaks 6–18 mm thick, at sample temperatures from 38 to 98 C and under total dryer pressures from 20 to 2000 μ, from pre- and postrigor, quick- and slow-frozen cod. The drying time varied directly with the thickness, inversely with the temperature of the sample, was not affected by total pressure ...

Erythrocyte Lipids of Atlantic Cod, Gadus morhua
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1971Erythrocytes from mature male cod, which had been starved for 1 week, contained 16.5 × 10−13 g lipid per cell, about 75% of which was phospholipid. Cholesterol represented about 11%, triglycerides 5%, free fatty acids 4%, and sterol esters 2% of the total lipid.

Molecular Cloning of the Atlantic Cod Chymotrypsinogen B
Microbial & Comparative Genomics, 2000The cDNA encoding Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) chymotrypsinogen B has been isolated and sequenced. Its deduced amino acid sequence consists of a 16-residue signal sequence and a mature polypeptide of 247 residues, being two residues longer than its vertebrate analogs.
