Inclusive science in the South Atlantic
The South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation initiative began as a grassroots effort to study the South Atlantic Ocean and its impact on climate.

Improved air quality is projected to weaken Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation but the effects can be offset by methane reductions, according to air quality control simulations based on the Shared Socio-economic Pathways.

Observed decline of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation 2004–2012 [PDF]
Abstract. The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) has been observed continuously at 26° N since April 2004. The AMOC and its component parts are monitored by combining a transatlantic array of moored instruments with submarine-cable-based measurements of the Gulf Stream and satellite derived Ekman transport.

Glaciers showed a similar evolution in Greenland, Europe, the US and the tropical Andes during the Holocene. The authors propose the Atlantic Meridional Ocean Overturning Circulation as a key driver of this trend.

The glacial mid-depth radiocarbon bulge and its implications for the overturning circulation [PDF]
This work was supported by a Foster and Coco Stanback Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Marie Curie Career Integration grant (CIG14-631752) awarded to A.B., and an NSF grant awarded to A.F.T.Published reconstructions of radiocarbon in the Atlantic sector of ...

Resilience of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation
We address the issue of resilience of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) given the many indications that this dynamical system is in a multi-stable regime. A novel approach to resilience based on rare event techniques is presented, which leads to a measure capturing “resistance to change” and “ability to return” aspects in a ...

An optimal salinity fingerprint is proposed to detect the long-term Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) response to anthropogenic forcing. A real-word application suggests a likely accelerated weakening of the AMOC in recent decades.

Seasonality of meridional overturning in the subpolar North Atlantic: density flux as a metric for understanding the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation [PDF]
The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) has a notable seasonal component. This influences the jet stream and the location, frequency, and intensity of extreme weather events.

Past, Present, and Future Changes in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation [PDF]
Observations and numerical modeling experiments provide evidence for links between variability in the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) and global climate patterns. Reduction in the strength of the overturning circulation is thought to have played a key role in rapid climate change in the past and may have the potential to ...

The location of diapycnal mixing and the meridional overturning circulation [PDF]
The large-scale consequences of diapycnal mixing location are explored using an idealized threedimensional model of buoyancy-forced flow in a single hemisphere. Diapycnal mixing is most effective in supporting a strong meridional overturning circulation (
