Multidecadal variability of the overturning circulation in presence of eddy turbulence [PDF]
At low-resolution, idealized ocean circulation models forced by prescribed differential surface heat fluxes show spontaneous multidecadal variability depending critically on eddy diffusivity coefficients.

Impact of Atlantic multidecadal oscillations on India/Sahel rainfall and Atlantic hurricanes
Prominent multidecadal fluctuations of India summer rainfall, Sahel summer rainfall, and Atlantic Hurricane activity have been observed during the 20th century. Understanding their mechanism(s) will have enormous social and economic implications. We first use statistical analyses to show that these climate phenomena are coherently linked.

A sediment-based reconstruction of Caribbean effective precipitation during the Little Ice Age from Freshwater Pond, Barbuda [PDF]
Contemporary climate dynamics of the circum-Caribbean region are characterised by significant precipitation variability on interannual and interdecadal timescales controlled primarily by El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Atlantic Multidecadal ...

Increased persistence of warm and wet winter weather in recent decades in north-western Europe
Changes in weather persistence have important implications for flood risk and regional climate resilience. In recent decades, the winter North Atlantic Oscillation index has shown a sustained shift toward more strongly positive values, exceeding the ...

In this study, the impact of Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) on the connection of winter sea-ice concentration (SIC) over Barents-Kara Seas (BKS) to El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is explored.

An ocean memory framework is proposed to reveal the atmosphere's influence on ocean temperatures. Anomalous atmospheric forcing alters the ocean state through two mechanisms: short‐term, local effects involving air−sea heat fluxes and Ekman circulation ...

The Global 3-Dimensional Structure of Climate Associated with the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation [PDF]
Poster Division 2: Science and Technology: 2nd Place (The Ohio State University Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum)The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) is a dominant driver of climate on multidecadal timescales characterized by alternating ...
