A multi-model comparison of Atlantic multidecadal variability
A multi-model analysis of Atlantic multidecadal variability is performed with the following aims: to investigate the similarities to observations; to assess the strength and relative importance of the different elements of the mechanism proposed by Delworth et al.

The Baltic Sea watershed includes the territories of 14 countries in Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe. Long-term observations have shown that the climate in this area is characterised by a pronounced multidecadal variability, with a period of about ...

Identifying the mechanisms behind the Atlantic Multidecadal Variability (AMV) is crucial for understanding and predicting decadal climate change. However, what is behind the AMV is still debated.

Multidecadal CO2 uptake variability of the North Atlantic
The multidecadal variability of air‐sea CO2 fluxes in the North Atlantic under preindustrial atmospheric CO2 conditions is simulated, using a coupled biogeochemical/circulation model driven by long‐term surface forcing reconstructed from the leading modes of sea level pressure observations from 1850 to 2000.

Multidecadal variability of Atlantic hurricane activity: 1851–2007 [PDF]
An analysis of Atlantic hurricane data (HURDAT), using a hurricane activity index that integrates over hurricane numbers, durations, and strengths during the years 1851–2007, suggests a quasi‐periodic behavior with a period around 60 years superimposed upon a linearly increasing background. The linearly increasing background is significantly reduced or

Several studies have shown a statistically significant correlation between Atlantic multidecadal variability (AMV) and Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) since 1871 when instrumental data are available. In the instrumental records, both ISMR and North

Coherent multidecadal variability in North Atlantic sea level [PDF]
Tide gauge records from around the North Atlantic are examined and found to show variability on 20–30 year time scales. Sea surface height variability along the western boundary of the North Atlantic shows a particularly strong and coherent signal. Similar variability is also found in an ensemble of runs using a state‐of‐the‐art climate model (GFDL CM2.

Mediterranean overflow water in the North Atlantic and its multidecadal variability
The Mediterranean overflow water is one of the most important intermediate-depth water masses in the North Atlantic. To investigate its properties a pre-industrial simulation with the earth system model EC-Earth is used.

Antarctic sea ice plays an important role in polar ecosystems and global climate, while its variability is affected by many factors. Teleconnections between the tropical and high latitudes have profound impacts on Antarctic climate changes through the ...

The sea surface temperature (SST) signature of Atlantic multidecadal variability (AMV) is a key driver of climate variability in surrounding regions. Low-frequency Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) variability is often invoked as a key ...
