Impact of Trans-Atlantic-Pacific Ocean Dipole–like pattern on summer precipitation variability over West Africa

open access: yesAtmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters, 2018
Recent findings indicate that rainfall variability over West Africa is characterized by more positive anomalies in the last four decades. The authors demonstrate that the recent interannual rainfall variability is linked to an air–sea phenomenon that ...

Sunshine Duration in Brazil From Meteosat (1983–2020): Climatology, Variability and Long‐Term Trends

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Using nearly four decades of Meteosat satellite data (1983–2020), this study presents a country‐wide climatology of sunshine duration (SDU) in Brazil. The results reveal marked regional contrasts, dominant modes of variability, and significant long‐term trends, providing new information on the most relevant meteorological systems that influence SDU and

Atlantic Ocean influence on a shift in European climate in the 1990s [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
European climate exhibits variability on a wide range of timescales. Understanding the nature and drivers of this variability is an essential step in developing robust climate predictions and risk assessments.

Projected Intensification of Hydroclimatic Extremes in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, Under CMIP6 Scenarios

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract presents observed (1963–2023) and projected changes in hydroclimatic extremes in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. It integrates dry‐spell duration (CDD) and extreme precipitation (R95pTOT) using CMIP6 multimodel ensembles under SSP1‐2.6, SSP2‐4.5, and SSP5‐8.5.

Holocene sea‐level and environmental changes on the Isle of Mull, Scotland

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sea‐level and coastal changes are reconstructed on the Isle of Mull, western Scotland, from 10 988 to 10 507 cal BP to the present. This research has produced the first SLIP for the Isle of Mull. A multiproxy approach including pollen, spore, foraminifera and diatom analyses reveals palaeoenvironmental changes from two coastal sites.

Mare Occidentale

open access: yesTerra Brasilis, 2007
Since the discovery of America and throughout the sixteenth century, one of the main concerns of cartographers was to draw with increasing precision the coasts of continental America and the Atlantic islands.

First record of the Sculptured Mitten Lobster Parribacus antarcticus (Crustacea, Decapoda, Scyllaridae) from the Cabo Verde Islands (eastern Atlantic) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The lobster genus Parribacuscontains six living and one fossil species (Holthuis 1991; Chan 2010; Nyborg & Garassino 2017). In the Atlantic Ocean, only one living species is known, Parribacus antarcticus(Lund, 1793); it has been recorded in the western ...

Holocene palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of sea level, coastal and vegetation changes along the southern Solway Firth, United Kingdom

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Holocene relative sea level (RSL) changes were reconstructed from four sites along the less‐studied southern Solway Firth. A multiproxy approach, including lithostratigraphical and biostratigraphical analyses, combined with radiocarbon dating, produced ten sea level index points (SLIPs).

Machine learning model identifies tibial anatomical variables as potential risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament injury

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The tibial slope is a well‐known risk factor for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. As machine learning continues to progress, it has become an increasingly explored tool for clinical screening and risk factor analysis. This study aims to develop and validate a prognostic machine learning model to predict the outcome of ACL ...

Ocean acidification at the crossroads I: Harmonizing unpurified and purified meta‐cresol purple spectrophotometric pHT measurements based on absorbance data

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Consistent monitoring of seawater spectrophotometric pH on the total hydrogen ion scale (pHT) has been questioned by an evolving method, with changes in parameterization and the purity of the meta‐cresol purple (mCP). Using real seawater samples, we demonstrate that spectrophotometric pHT measurements obtained with unpurified (UNPUR) and ...
