Artificial atlanto-axial joints: On the “move”

open access: hybridNeurology India, 2016
The current management of atlantoaxial dislocation emphasizes on C1-2 reduction and fusion. The fusion of C1-2, however, hampers the neck movements significantly. The author has designed and developed artificial C1-2 joints that can mimic the natural joints to some extent. The concept and nuances of the design has been described.

Osteoarthritis of the atlanto-axial joints

open access: hybridDer Orthopäde, 1996
Eight patients with post-traumatic chronic cervical syndrome and degenerative changes of the upper cervical spine, were treated with suboccipital fusion. After a mean follow up of 60 months (58-64), the patients were examined. Three patients had died during the follow-up period. A solid fusion was achieved in all cases.

Lateral atlanto-axial joint access using the C2 pedicle [PDF]

open access: bronzePain Medicine
Abstract Background Neck pain and headaches can arise from the lateral atlanto-axial (LAA) joint. This pain can be diagnosed with intra-articular injections of local anesthetic. A widely used technique for access to the lateral atlanto-axial joint uses a posterior approach, but this approach can be ...

Anatomic Considerations for Injection of the Lateral Atlanto-Axial Joint [PDF]

open access: bronzePain Medicine, 2019
Abstract Objective We aimed to define the potential complications of intra-articular steroid injections into the lateral C1-2 articulations and safety margins to the relevant structures. Methods A total of 488 contrast-enhanced ...
