Vertical atlantoaxial dislocation [PDF]
An unusual case of vertical atlantoaxial dislocation without medulla oblongata or spinal cord injury is reported. The pathogenic process suggested occipito-axial dislocation. The case was treated surgically with excellent results on mobility and pain.

A Review of the Diagnosis and Treatment of Atlantoaxial Dislocations
Study Design Literature review. Objective Atlantoaxial dislocation (AAD) is a rare and potentially fatal disturbance to the normal occipital-cervical anatomy that affects some populations disproportionately, which may cause permanent neurologic deficits ...

Feasibility and Safety of the C1 "Zero Angle" Screw: A Novel "In-Out-In" Technique for Atlantoaxial Dislocation. [PDF]
The C1ZAS with “in–out–in” technique is presented as an alternative to C1 PS in cases of AAD with a trajectory parallel to the sagittal plane. This method involves penetrating the recess of the atlas to achieve tricortical or quadricortical purchase for rigid fixation while minimizing the risk of injury to the V3 segment of the VA.

Novel MRI Signs in Atlantodental Space Predict Reduction Degree of Atlantoaxial Dislocation. [PDF]
We summarized cases of AAD, classified based on the atlantodental space using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). and preliminarily explored its impact on the degree of reduction. We found patients with high signal intensity were more likely to achieve satisfactory reduction after direct posterior surgery.
