Posterior Direct Reduction of Lateral Atlantoaxial Joints for Rigid Pediatric Atlantoaxial Subluxation

Spine, 2020
Study Design. Clinical case series. Objective. To present a surgical technique and results of posterior direct reduction of lateral atlantoaxial joints for rigid pediatric atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS) using a fulcrum lever technique.

Atlantoaxial Joint: Atlantoaxial Joint Injection and Radiofrequency Ablation

2014
Cervicogenic headache is referred pain from cervical structures innervated by the upper three cervical spinal nerves. The lateral atlantoaxial joint is innervated by the C2 ventral ramus. It is a fairly common cause of cervicogenic headache as it may account for up to 16 % of patients with occipital headache.

Atlantoaxial Joint Synovial Cyst: Diagnosis and Percutaneous Treatment

CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology, 2008
Synovial cysts at the atlantoaxial level are found uncommonly. Lumbar symptomatic cases are treated by percutaneous cyst aspiration with or without corticoid injection or by surgical resection, but synovial cysts at the C1-C2 level are usually treated by surgery.

Dorsal cross pinning of the atlantoaxial joint: New surgical technique for atlantoaxial subluxation

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1996
ABSTRACTThe subluxated atlantoaxial joint of a tetraplegic Yorkshire terrier was reduced and secured in position by means of cross pinning applied via a dorsal approach. The dog made a very satisfactory recovery. The surgical technique for this new procedure is described.

[Dislocation of the atlantoaxial joint].

Der Unfallchirurg, 2015
Injuries of the cervical spine in adolescents only occur in 0.2 % of cases. Due to the mismatch of size of the head in comparison to the relatively weakly developed neck muscles at this age, the cranial section is more vulnerable to injuries of any kind compared to the lower sections of the cervical spine.

Atlantoaxial joint jamming as a treatment for atlantoaxial dislocation: a preliminary report

Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, 2007
✓In this report the author describes an alternative technique of atlantoaxial fixation that involves blocking or “jamming” of movements of the atlantoaxial joint. The technique involves forcible impaction of spiked titanium metal spacers and bone grafts within the distracted atlantoaxial facet joints.

MR imaging of atlantoaxial joint in early rheumatoid arthritis

La radiologia medica, 2010
This study was done to assess the involvement of the atlantoaxial joint in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis and evaluate the role of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in depicting this early joint involvement.Twenty patients (16 women and four men, mean age 55.0±12.9 years) with clinical and laboratory evidence of early rheumatoid arthritis (mean

Atlantoaxial Rotatory Fixation: Part 1—Biomechanics OF Normal Rotation at the Atlantoaxial Joint in Children

Neurosurgery, 2004
Atlantoaxial rotatory fixation (AARF) remains a recondite entity loosely included under the panoply of cervical trauma. The difficulty in finding a precise definition and reliable diagnostic criteria for AARF has been chiefly because of a lack of normative biomechanical data for C1-C2 rotation. As Part 1 and foundation of a comprehensive undertaking to

Treatment of basilar invagination with atlantoaxial dislocation: atlantoaxial joint distraction and fixation with transoral atlantoaxial reduction plate (TARP) without odontoidectomy

European Spine Journal, 2014
Although direct transoral decompression and one-stage posterior instrumentation can obtain satisfactory cord decompression for the treatment of basilar invagination with atlantoaxial dislocation, surgical injuries run high as combinative anterior-posterior approaches were necessary.

INVASIVE PIGMENTED VILLONODULAR SYNOVITIS OF THE ATLANTOAXIAL JOINT

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-American Volume, 2002
Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a slowly progressive lesion that originates from the synovial membrane of the tendons and joints 1-6. It most frequently occurs in the hip and knee joints as a monoarticular proliferative process but may arise in any joint 1,2,7,8. However, the cervical spine is an uncommon site of involvement, with the cases of only
