Fractures of the first cervical vertebra are usually caused by indirect trauma with force being transmitted through the skull to the atlas. The clinical picture usually is of little help in making the diagnosis which depends on anteroposterior and lateral roentgenograms often supplemented by axial views and body section techniques.

Four hundred and nineteen lateral cephalometric radiographs were reviewed to determine the prevalence and extent of ponticles of the posterior arch of the cervical vertebra. All the radiographs were from the dental clinic files. About two-thirds of the patients had only minor bridging while in 14% it was complete or near-complete bridging.

This Atlas presents statistical analyses of the simulations submitted to the Aqua-Planet Experiment (APE) data archive. The simulations are from global Atmospheric General Circulation Models (AGCM) applied to a water-covered earth. The AGCMs include ones actively used or being developed for numerical weather prediction or climate research.
