NLTE analysis of spectra: OBA stars

open access: yes, 2014
Methods of calculation of NLTE model atmosphere are discussed. The NLTE trace element procedure is compared with the full NLTE model atmosphere calculation. Differences between LTE and NLTE atmosphere modeling are evaluated.

Australian aquatic bio-optical dataset with applications for satellite calibration, algorithm development and validation

open access: yesData in Brief, 2022
The authors present bio-optical data spanning 316 sets of observations made at 34 inland waterbodies in Australia. The data was collected over the period 2013–2021 and comprise radiometric measurements of remote sensing reflectance (Rrs), diffuse ...

Music Interventions in Hyperacute and Acute Stroke Patients: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Feasibility Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Music interventions have been shown to have beneficial effects on hemodynamic parameters, pain, and anxiety in various medical settings. However, music interventions in the setting of acute stroke have not been studied. The objective of this trial was to perform a pilot feasibility study of music interventions in the setting of acute

Preventive Effect of Metformin in Radiation‐Induced Xerostomia

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Head and neck cancer patients who received radiotherapy complain of severe dry mouth due to damage to the salivary glands. Metformin is an antidiabetic drug, but its radio‐protective effect has been reported. It is confirmed that metformin protects the salivary glands from radiation and provides evidence for the use of metformin in cancer treatment in ...

On the Decadal Modes of Oscillation of an Idealized Ocean-atmosphere System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Axially-symmetric, linear, free modes of global, primitive equation, ocean-atmosphere models are examined to see if they contain decadal (10 to 30 years) oscillation time scale modes.

The isothermal layer of the atmosphere and atmospheric radiation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A, Containing Papers of a Mathematical and Physical Character, 1909
The investigation of the upper air by means of balloons carrying self-recording instruments, which have furnished values for the atmospheric temperature up to heights between 15 and 20 kilometres, has revealed the existence of an abnormal change in the vertical temperature gradient. After a fairly uniform fall, with increasing altitude, of

Characterization and Optimization of Vesicle Properties in bioPISA: from Size Distribution to Post‐Assembly Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The paper explores the creation and characterization of vesicles through biocatalytic Polymerization‐Induced Self‐Assembly (bioPISA), focusing on achieving size uniformity using centrifugation techniques. It examines the effects of stirring speed on vesicle morphology and analyses the internal polymer‐rich structure using fluorescence correlation ...

Might Carbon-Atmosphere White Dwarfs Harbour a New Type of Pulsating Star?

open access: yes, 2008
In the light of the recent and unexpected discovery of a brand new type of white dwarfs, those with carbon-dominated atmospheres, we examine the asteroseismological potential of such stars. The motivation behind this is based on the observation that past

Activation of SIRT1 Reduces Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells Fibrosis in Hypoxia Through SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐Autophagy Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.
