Detection of CO in Triton's atmosphere and the nature of surface-atmosphere interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Triton possesses a thin atmosphere, primarily composed of nitrogen, sustained by the sublimation of surface ices. The goal is to determine the composition of Triton's atmosphere and to constrain the nature of surface-atmosphere interactions. We perform high-resolution spectroscopic observations in the 2.32-2.37 $\mu$m range, using CRIRES at the VLT ...

Internal Temperature Evolution Metrology and Analytics in Li‐Ion Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the non‐linear evolution of internal temperatures across diverse operating conditions, highlighting the disparities between internal and external measurements and the resulting thermal asymmetries. The coupled thermo‐electrochemical modeling framework provides a comprehensive analysis of various heat generation modes, examining ...

An estimation of the mass dragged by the solar wind from Mars’s atmosphere in its geologic history [PDF]

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 2001
In the past Mars had a denser atmosphere, but it lacks a magnetic field to protect the ionosphere and exosphere from the solar wind. A model for describing the loss of atmosphere in geologic time is presented.

A search for biogenic trace gases in the atmosphere of Mars [PDF]

open access: yes
The detection of certain trace gases in the atmosphere of Mars may serve as a possible indicator of microbial life on the surface of Mars. Candidate biogenic gases include methane CH4, ammonia NH3, nitrous oxide N2O, and several reduced sulfur species ...

Electricity Generation From Ambient Water Evaporation in the Absence of Sunlight via PVA‐Based Porous Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, a water‐evaporation driven energy harvester is devised that works even in the absence of sunlight. This is achieved by combining PVA hydrogel with thermoelectrics (TEG) to directly capture energy from water evaporation. Under mild conditions (RH 40%, T of 26 °C, and 2.8 m s−1 wind), 1.71 mW (1.02 W m−2) power can be generated, >3 fold ...

Origin and early evolution of terrestrial planet atmospheres and oceans

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2019
Planet atmospheric compositions are determined by the availability of a gas species, its molecular weight and the mass (or gravity force) of a planet. Both Mercury and the Moon are not massive enough to hold any gas species to form an atmosphere.

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.
