Geometry‐Assisted Phase Selection: Interplay of Phase Heterogeneity and Geometry in Gyroid Shell Metamaterials Printed with 17‐4 PH Stainless Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores geometry‐driven phase evolution in gyroid shell metamaterials made via laser powder bed fusion of 17‐4 precipitation hardened stainless steel. Locally hardened regions develop along the primary loading paths in the structure, which finite element analysis and geometric considerations link to enhanced gyroid strength.

The Viability of the Refractory High‐Entropy Alloy AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr for High‐Temperature Structural Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Refractory high‐entropy alloys have attracted substantial attention for future ultrahigh‐temperature structural applications. Here the progression of key phase transformations in AlMo0.5NbTa0.5TiZr is established and correlated to the mechanical performance, highlighting the importance of the B2 phase.

Meteoroid Ablation within the Jovian Atmosphere: Implications on the Oxygen Delivery to the Gas Giant's Atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The detection of water molecules within the atmosphere of Jupiter, first by the Galileo Atmospheric Probe, and later by the Juno spacecraft, has given rise to the question of whether those molecules are sourced endogenously or exogenously. One hypothesis is that the ablation of meteoroids deposited the necessary oxygen into the atmosphere, which was ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Measurement of the atmospheric $ν_μ$ flux with six detection units of KM3NeT/ORCA [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A measurement of the atmospheric $\nu_{\mu}+\bar{\nu}_{\mu}$ flux with energies between 1--100 GeV is presented. The measurement has been performed using data taken with the first six detection units of the KM3NeT/ORCA detector, referred to as ORCA6. The data were collected between January 2020 and November 2021 and correspond to 510 days of livetime ...

Evidence for super-exponentially accelerating atmospheric carbon dioxide growth [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We analyze the growth rates of atmospheric carbon dioxide and human population, by comparing the relative merits of two benchmark models, the exponential law and the finite-time-singular (FTS) power law. The later results from positive feedbacks, either direct or mediated by other dynamical variables, as shown in our presentation of a simple endogenous
