A Sub-Atmospheric Solar Distillation Unit

International Journal of Solar Energy, 1987
Abstract This paper describes the design, manufacture and performance of a new type of solar distillation unit. The unit operates at a pressure below the atmospheric and utilizes a flat-plate collector. The designed unit is intended for an experimental purpose and operates on draw and fill or non-flow basis.

Atmospheric polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in the United Kingdom

Environmental Pollution, 2012
The occurrence of PBDEs has been studied in the atmosphere of four sites in the United Kingdom over a period of ten years. The concentrations have exhibited a sharp decrease after 2001-2003. This is evident in the urban sites of Manchester and London and at the semi-rural site of Hazelrigg. The average ΣPBDE half-lives for these three sites were 3.4, 2.

Acid inputs from the atmosphere in the United Kingdom

Soil Use and Management, 1985
Abstract. Inputs of acidity to the ground arise through two distinct routes: wet deposition which includes all acidity deposited in rain and snow and dry deposition, the direct sorption of SO 2 , NO 2 or HNO 3

Symbols, Units and Nomenclature for Atmospheric Transmission

Optical Engineering, 1966
This report discusses concepts, symbols, units and nomenclature for describing the transmission of radiant flux through earth's variable density atmosphere. The geometrical concepts used in the field of photometry and radiometry are the same. A common set of symbols is proposed for use in both fields together with some terms not previously used.

Atmosphere Trials on United States Navy Submarines

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2005
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The US Navy is currently conducting a new round of atmosphere control sea trials on operational submarines. Atmosphere trials have been conducted over the past four decades. Traditionally each trial builds upon the prior one.

ATMOSPHERIC WAVES IN THE NORTHWESTERN UNITED STATES

Journal of Meteorology, 1948
Abstract I. The flow of air in vertical planes across the Rocky Mountains is studied through the potential-temperature distribution. Sinusoidal configurations of the isentropes are observed which seem to correspond to theoretical patterns, i.e., wide separation of isentropic surfaces (low stability) and ascent overlying descent in the lee with a nodal ...

Perceptions of Ward Atmosphere on an Oncology Unit

The International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine, 1982
This study examined perceptions of ward atmosphere and ideal ward atmosphere by twenty patients, twenty-four staff, and fifteen family members on an oncology unit at a major cancer research institute. Specified preferences for an ideal ward atmosphere were assumed to reflect psychosocial needs of the three groups.

Unit Thermal Performance of Atmospheric Spray Cooling Systems

Journal of Heat Transfer, 1980
Thermal performance of an open atmospheric spray pond or canal depends on the direct-contact evaporative cooling of an individual spray unit (spray nozzle or module) and the interference caused by local heating and humidification. Droplet parameters may be combined into a dimensionless group, number of transfer units (NTU) or equivalent, whereas large ...
