Fundamental parameters of bright Ap stars from wide-range energy distributions and advanced atmospheric models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
As a well-established procedure for the vast majority of normal main-sequence stars, determination of atmospheric and stellar parameters turns to be a challenging process in case of magnetic chemically peculiar stars. Inhomogeneous distribution of chemical elements and strong magnetic fields make most of the standard photometric and spectroscopic ...

The CDK12–BRCA1 signaling axis mediates dinaciclib‐associated radiosensitivity through p53‐mediated cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dinaciclib blocks CDK12 activity, leading to downregulation of BRCA1, and probably other proteins involved in homologous recombination, promoting nonhomologous end joining. In this scenario, the presence of ionising radiation triggers a p53‐dependent senescent response that yields increased radiosensitivity. Pan‐cyclin‐dependent‐kinase (CDK) inhibitors

A Methodology for Comparing the Surface Urban Heat Island in Selected Urban Agglomerations Around the World from Sentinel-3 SLSTR Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Retrieval of land surface temperature (LST) from satellite data allows to estimate the surface urban heat island (SUHI) as the difference between the LST obtained in the urban area and the LST of its surroundings.

Design and construction of portable surface aeration pump for tanks and small ponds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The maintenance of adequate dissolved oxygen level is very important in the economy of any aquaculture system. An easy to construct aerating device was created using 0.5 hp water-pump, shower rose, Styrofoam, and rubber hose. The aerator works by drawing

Atmospheric ammonia and particulate inorganic nitrogen over the United States [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2012
Abstract. We use in situ observations from the Interagency Monitoring of PROtected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) network, the Midwest Ammonia Monitoring Project, 11 surface site campaigns as well as Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) satellite measurements with the GEOS-Chem model to investigate inorganic aerosol loading and ...

The Patient’s Situation During Interhospital Intensive Care Unit-to-Unit Transfers: A Hermeneutical Observational Study

open access: yesQualitative Health Research, 2019
Interhospital intensive care unit-to-unit transfers are an increasing phenomenon, earlier mainly studied from a patient safety perspective. Using data from video recordings and participant observations, the aim was to explore and interpret the observed ...

Multi‐omics profiling reveals key factors involved in Ewing sarcoma metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model that recapitulates the spread of tumor cells within the body, we have profiled paired tumors and metastasis samples using a multiomics approach combining different layers of biological information. We identified key genes that drive metastasis in Ewing sarcoma.

A shift in anterior–posterior positional information underlies the fin-to-limb evolution

open access: yeseLife, 2015
The pectoral fins of ancestral fishes had multiple proximal elements connected to their pectoral girdles. During the fin-to-limb transition, anterior proximal elements were lost and only the most posterior one remained as the humerus.

Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Consistency assessment of latent heat flux and observational datasets over the Amazon basin

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
The Amazon basin plays a crucial role in the global hydrological cycle and the climate system. Removal of latent heat from the surface covered by the tropical forest through evapotranspiration is a key process that still requires further research due to ...
