Surface boundary layer atmospheres
2002The solar system contains many bodies with atmospheres so thin that collisions seldom occur between the atmospheric constituents. These are called surface boundary layer atmospheres. Not only is the surface the source of the atoms and molecules, but their interactions with the surface determine the atmospheric properties.

Atmospheric Boundary Layer Flows
1994Boundary layer meteorology is the study of the physical processes that take place in the layer of air that is most influenced by the earth's underlying surface. This text/reference gives an uncomplicated view of the structure of the boundary layer, the instruments available for measuring its mean and turbulent properties, how best to make the ...

The atmospheric boundary layer
2007A review is presented of the turbulent structure and dynamics of the atmospheric boundary layer. First attention is given to some general aspects of the boundary layer in relation to its role in the dynamics of the atmosphere. The general characteristics of the boundary layer, such as turbulence are discussed and the equations for a horizontally ...

Turbulence in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer
The Physics of Fluids, 1967The specific features of atmospheric boundary-layer turbulence are described. The small-scale properties of atmospheric turbulence depend very little on the peculiarities of its large-scale components and obey approximately the laws of locally isotropic turbulence. It is shown that turbulence is locally axisymmetric in respect to the vertical direction

Stably Stratified Atmospheric Boundary Layers
Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics, 2014Atmospheric boundary layers with weak stratification are relatively well described by similarity theory and numerical models for stationary horizontally homogeneous conditions. With common strong stratification, similarity theory becomes unreliable.
