Chemical Characteristics and Potential Sources of PM2.5 in Shahe City during Severe Haze Pollution Episodes in the Winter

open access: yesAerosol and Air Quality Research, 2020
In recent years, North China has suffered from severe air pollution. Hence, this study performed a comprehensive field experiment during Dec. 2017 in Shahe (114.5°N, 36.85°E), a typical industrial city in this region that is characterized by intensive ...

Impacts of additional HONO sources on O3 and PM2.5 chemical coupling and control strategies in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region of China [PDF]

open access: yesTellus: Series B, Chemical and Physical Meteorology, 2015
The objective of this work is to examine the impacts of additional HONO sources on the chemical interaction between ozone (O3) and particulate matter with a diameter≤2.5 µm (PM2.5). Three additional HONO sources, i.e.

Influences of cosmic radiation, artificial radioactivity and aerosol concentration upon the fair-weather atmospheric electric field in Lisbon (1955–1991) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The atmospheric electric field is influenced by cosmic radiation, radioactivity and aerosols. In this work we investigate the existence of: (i) correlations between relative anomalies of annual values of atmospheric electric field and cosmic radiation ...

Indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase 1 inhibition reverses cancer‐associated fibroblast‐mediated immunosuppression in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CAF‐mediated immunosuppression in ovarian cancer is driven by IDO1, reducing T‐cell function. Inhibiting IDO1 restores T‐cell proliferation and cytotoxicity, increases cancer cell apoptosis, and may help overcome CAF‐induced immune suppression in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer. Targeting IDO1 may improve antitumor immunity.

Vertical Coherence of Turbulence in the Atmospheric Surface Layer: Connecting the Hypotheses of Townsend and Davenport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Statistical descriptions of coherent flow motions in the atmospheric boundary layer have many applications in the wind engineering community. For instance, the dynamical characteristics of large-scale motions in wall-turbulence play an important role in ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Effects of Regional Transport on Haze in the North China Plain: Transport of Precursors or Secondary Inorganic Aerosols

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2020
Most previous studies treat regional transport of aerosols as a whole, without distinguishing the transport of secondary aerosols and that of their precursors.

Role of the subtropical westerly jet wave train in the eastward-moving heavy rainfall event over southern China in winter: A case study

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Under the wintertime background of westerly flows, heavy rainfall often occurs first over southwestern China and then spreads eastward downstream to southeastern China, causing serious impact on a large scope of southern China.

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

The Atmospheric Boundary Layer

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1995
Since the atmospheric boundary layer governs the transfer of heat, momentum, water, and chemicals between the Earth and the overlying atmosphere, an adequate representation of its behavior is essential for atmospheric models. Interactions between the boundary layer and processes in the free atmosphere—for example large‐scale advection and cumulus ...
