Inspired by the skin‐toughening mechanism of marine sponges, an ion‐orchestrated structural engineering strategy is proposed to regulate the surface microstructure of hydrogel coatings, enabling the in situ formation of a robust armor layer that enhances mechanical integrity and provides multifunctional protection by suppressing fouling attachment and ...

Accelerated Test Method for Corrosion Protective Coatings Project [PDF]
This project seeks to develop a new accelerated corrosion test method that predicts the long-term corrosion protection performance of spaceport structure coatings as accurately and reliably as current long-term atmospheric exposure tests.

Corrosion and wear in moulding boxes [PDF]
We assess the potential causes of damage to mould box ends and find that both HOT corrosion, due to burning of emitted volatiles, and COLD corrosion, due to the presence of high humidity (and possibly high chloride ion concentration), are likely to ...

Geometrically‐Screened, Sterically‐Hindered Additive for Wide‐Temperature Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries
A molecular‑engineering strategy combining steric hindrance tuning with geometric optimization identifies cellobiose as an ideal additive for aqueous zinc‑ion batteries, enabling stable Zn deposition across a wide temperature range from −30 to 50 °C. Abstract Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) are emerging as a highly promising alternative to lithium ...

Optimal control of the heave motion of marine cable subsea-unit systems [PDF]
One of the key problems associated with subsea operations involving tethered subsea units is the motions of support vessels on the ocean surface which can be transmitted to the subsea unit through the cable and increase the tension.

Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

Steps Towards Atmospheric Corrosion Modelling
Corrosion modeling has been done for several years aiming to provide practical information to corrosion engineers in view of lifetime predictions. The first atmospheric corrosion models were based on fitted correlations with limited or no physical background.
