Atmospheric gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) concentrations and mercury depositions at a high-altitude mountain peak in south China [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2010
China is regarded as the largest contributor of mercury (Hg) to the global atmospheric Hg budget. However, concentration levels and depositions of atmospheric Hg in China are poorly known. Continuous measurements of atmospheric gaseous elemental mercury (

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Exploring Curvature Effects in Direct‐Written 3D Curved Hollow Magnetic Nanoshells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fabricated by a hybrid FEBID/CVD method, 3D PtC/Co3Fe core–shell heterostructures with engineered curvature and shell thickness exhibit complex reversal modes with axially symmetric N'eel‐type domain walls. XMCD‐PEEM combined with full‐scale micromagnetic simulations reveal how curvature and thickness govern the domain wall energy landscape and shape ...

Estimation of carbon sequestration in China’s forests induced by atmospheric wet nitrogen deposition using the principles of ecological stoichiometry

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2017
The worldwide development of industry and agriculture has generated noticeable increases in atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition, significantly altering the global N cycle.

Role of Intrinsic Electron Trapping in Negative Charging of Amorphous Alumina

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intrinsic electron trapping in amorphous Al2O3 is examined using hybrid‐DFT models spanning a wide density range. Both spontaneous and thermally activated trapping are identified, with pronounced spontaneous localization in dense, partly crystallized structures.

Integration of Low‐Voltage Nanoscale MoS2 Memristors on CMOS Microchips

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the first monolithic integration of nanoscale MoS2‐based memristors into the back‐end‐of‐line of foundry‐fabricated CMOS microchips in a one‐transistor‐one‐resistor (1T1R) architecture. The MoS2‐based 1T1R cells exhibit forming‐free, nonvolatile resistive switching with ultra‐low operating voltages, low cycle‐to‐cycle variability ...

A New Approach to Determine the Total Airborne N Input into the Soil/Plant System Using 15N Isotope Dilution (ITNI): Results for Agricultural Areas in Central Germany

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2001
The atmospheric deposition of nitrogen (N) in the environment is of great concern due to its impact on natural ecosystems including affecting vegetation, reducing biodiversity, increasing tree growth in forests, and the eutrophication of aquatic systems.

Ecotoxicity of atmospheric deposition

open access: yes, 2021
Dry and wet deposition samples were collected between October 2003 and June 2004 inBuca, Izmir. Dry and wet depositions of selected heavy metals (Cr, Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn and Ni)were measured using a water surface sampler (WSS).Dry and wet deposition samples were filtered and both filters and filtrates were analyzedfor selected heavy metals using atomic ...

Atmospheric deposition of microplastics in Shiraz, Iran

open access: yesAtmospheric Pollution Research
The atmosphere plays a critical role in the regional and global transportation and redistribution of microplastics (MPs). However, the significance of rainfall and its means of scavenging MPs are not well understood. In this study, MP deposition was determined during successive dry and rainy events over eight consecutive days in the Shiraz region of ...
