Modelling the human pharyngeal airway: validation of numerical simulations using in vitro experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the presented study, a numerical model which predicts the flow-induced collapse within the pharyngeal airway is validated using in vitro measurements. Theoretical simplifications were considered to limit the computation time.

An Improved Split-Step Wavelet Transform Method for Anomalous Radio Wave Propagation Modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Anomalous tropospheric propagation caused by ducting phenomenon is a major problem in wireless communication. Thus, it is important to study the behavior of radio wave propagation in tropospheric ducts.

The vertical structure of Jupiter's equatorial zonal wind above the cloud deck, derived using mesoscale gravity waves

open access: yes, 2013
Data from the Galileo Probe, collected during its descent into Jupiter's atmosphere, is used to obtain a vertical profile of the zonal wind from $\mathbf{\sim 0.5}$ bar (upper troposphere) to $\mathbf{\sim 0.1\, \mu{bar}}$ (lower thermosphere) at the ...

Gleaning the Rocky Shore? 2500 Years of Coastal Resource Use at Red Bluff 1, GunaiKurnai Country, SE Australia

open access: yesArchaeology in Oceania, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Shell middens in Gippsland along the eastern half of Victoria's coastline have usually been characterised as small, short‐duration camp sites with relatively low shell densities and low taxonomic diversity. Here we present new excavation results from a dense, high‐diversity site at Red Bluff near the eastern end of GunaiKurnai Country, a ...

A High-Precision Prediction Method of Atmospheric Absorption Attenuation on Over-the-Horizon Propagation Trajectories

open access: yesAtmosphere
Abnormal refraction phenomena such as atmospheric ducts due to temperature inversions or rapid decreases in humidity often happen in the lower troposphere over the sea and coastal area, which can make low-elevation signals in the duct layer propagate ...
