Atmospheric Dynamics

2011
Mankin Mak's textbook provides a self-contained course on atmospheric dynamics. The first half is suitable for senior undergraduates, and develops the physical, dynamical and mathematical concepts at the fundamental level. The second half of the book is aimed at more advanced students who are already familiar with the basics.

Atmospheric Dynamics

1999
In his book, John Green presents a unique personal insight into the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and atmospheric dynamics. Generations of students have benefited from his lectures, and this book, many years in the making, is the result of his wide teaching and research experience.

Middle atmosphere dynamics

Reviews of Geophysics, 1983
This review attempts to summarize briefly the efforts of scientists in the United States to understand the large‐scale dynamics and climatology of the middle atmosphere, which have appeared in the reviewed literature between January 1979 and September 1982. Some significant contributions have no doubt been overlooked; and for this I must ask the pardon

Jovian atmospheres—dynamics

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1990
Observations of the long‐term variations in the motions and morphology of the cloud systems in the atmospheres of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have been hampered by terrestrial atmospheric effects, a limited range of accessible band passes, the necessity to sacrifice spectral resolution to achieve reasonable spatial resolution, and the inability

Dynamics of the Middle Atmosphere

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1979
Abstract Observational evidence for the broad spectrum of motions in the middle atmosphere (defined as that region between the tropopause and 100 km) are presented. These include zonal mean motions, planetary waves (both extratropical and tropical), tides, gravity waves, synoptic scale motions, and turbulence.

Callisto's Dynamic Atmosphere

2018
This paper presents an analysis of the atmosphere of Callisto and discusses how the Jovian system molded, and continues to mold Callisto's atmosphere over time. Before the analysis the general properties of Callisto and the atmosphere is reviewed and a literature review of pertinent information regarding the Callisto's atmosphere and previous ...

Atmospheric Dynamics: Fundamentals

1997
The equation of state for dry air (ideal gas law) is given by $$ p\alpha = RT{\kern 1pt} or{\kern 1pt} p = pRT $$ (1) where p, T, ρ, α, and R (= 287 Jkg-1K-1) denote pressure, temperature, density, specific volume, and the gas constant for dry air, respectively.

Atmospheric dynamics of the outer planets

Science, 1990
Despite major differences in the solar and internal energy inputs, the atmospheres of the four Jovian planets all exhibit latitudinal banding and high-speed jet streams. Neptune and Saturn are the windiest planets, Jupiter is the most active, and Uranus is a tipped-over version of the others.

Solar Atmospheric Dynamics.

1977
Abstract : We have studied the heating of the solar chromosphere and corona, and the propagation of acoustic waves through the transition region between the chromosphere and corona. In order to place an upper limit on the effectiveness of acoustic waves in heating, we have written and tested a computer program to accurately calculate the propagation ...
