Atmospheric electricity

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1991
Traditionally, research in atmospheric electricity, or perhaps more properly, atmospheric electrodynamics, has covered a broad range of topics, including the global electrical circuit, middle and upper atmosphere electrodynamics, thunderstorm electrification, lightning, and fair weather electrical properties.

Runaway electrons from a ‘beam-bulk’ model of streamer: application to TGFs

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2014
The generation of x- and gamma-rays in atmospheric discharges has been studied intensively since the discovery of terrestrial gamma-ray flashes (TGFs) by the Compton gamma-ray Observatory in 1991.

INVESTIGATING THE IMPACT OF ELECTRICITY SUPPLY INTERRUPTIONS ON THE EXPANSION OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZE ENTERPRISES (SMEs): A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

open access: yesInternational Journal of Entrepreneurial Knowledge, 2023
This paper aims to investigate the factors that impact electricity supply interruptions on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Cameroon and the theories used by researchers in preventing electricity supply interruptions.

Characterization of Aluminized Layers on Inconel‐738 Alloy: Microstructure, Modeling of Aluminizing Kinetics, and Thermal Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explored how effective nickel aluminide coatings are obtained in providing oxidation resistance applied to the Inconel 738 alloy, modeling with diffusion models. In the present study, kinetics and thermal behavior of the Inconel 738 alloy were studied by the low‐temperature thermoreactive aluminizing process, which was carried out at 625°C ...

Study on lightning risk assessment and early warning for UHV DC transmission channel

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2019
Operation data show lightning faults account for >70% for the main ultra-high voltage (UHV) DC transmission channels, very different from the design view.

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Long-Range Lightning Interferometry Using Coherency

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Traditional lightning detection and location networks use the time of arrival (TOA) technique to locate lightning events with a single time stamp. This contribution introduces a simulation study to lay the foundation for new lightning location concepts ...

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.
