On complex network techniques for atmospheric flow analysis: a polar vortex case study

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Complexity
Atmospheric flow underpins virtually all meteorological and climatological phenomena, yet extracting meaningful features from its dynamics remains a major scientific challenge due to its high dimensionality, multi-scale behaviour, and inherent ...

Radiation-Hydrodynamics of Hot Jupiter Atmospheres

open access: yes, 2010
Radiative transfer in planetary atmospheres is usually treated in the static limit, i.e., neglecting atmospheric motions. We argue that hot Jupiter atmospheres, with possibly fast (sonic) wind speeds, may require a more strongly coupled treatment ...

Atmospheric Ekman Flows with Variable Eddy Viscosity [PDF]

open access: yesBoundary-Layer Meteorology, 2018
We revisit the classical problem of the behaviour of the wind in the steady atmospheric Ekman layer. We show, for general variable eddy viscosities, that in the Northern Hemisphere the time-averaged ageostrophic wind profile always decays in magnitude and turns clockwise with increasing height.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Enhanced large-scale atmospheric flow interaction with ice sheets at high model resolution

open access: yesResults in Engineering, 2019
The development in supercomputing power allows running full-complexity Earth System Models (ESM) at increasingly higher spatial resolutions on a global scale.

Experiments on atmospheric processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Spacelab technology is examined as applied to the observation of the earth's weather patterns, composition, thermodynamics, and kinematics. An atmospheric cloud physics laboratory and a geophysical fluid flow cell are individually outlined as planned ...

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

From Macro- to Microscale: A combined modelling approach for near-surface wind flow on Mars at sub-dune length-scales.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
The processes that initiate and sustain sediment transport which contribute to the modification of aeolian deposits in Mars' low-density atmosphere are still not fully understood despite recent atmospheric modelling.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Mean flow evolution of saturated forced shear flows in polytropic atmospheres [PDF]

open access: yesEAS Publications Series, 2019
In stellar interiors shear flows play an important role in many physical processes. So far helioseismology provides only large-scale measurements, and so the small-scale dynamics remains insufficiently understood. To draw a connection between observations and three-dimensional DNS of shear driven turbulence, we investigate horizontally averaged ...
