Aligning Real‐Time Recurrence Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations with Plant Data for the Ruhrstahl–Heraeus Degassing Process of Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Uncertainties exist in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of complex metallurgical processes, even when partly validated by laboratory experiments. rCFD enables computationally efficient prediction of long‐term RH degassing and can be adapted to vary flow conditions.

Tailoring Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Post‐Processing Parameters for JIS SKD61 Tool Steels: Surface Roughness, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Laser powder bed fusion of JIS SKD61 tool steel is systematically optimized using a Taguchi design and ANOVA. Hatch spacing and layer thickness are identified as dominant parameters controlling surface roughness and tensile strength. Subsequent tempering at 600°C improves microstructural stability and mechanical performance, enabling high‐density SKD61

Rotating gravity current and channel flows

open access: yes, 1999
A theoretical and laboratory Investigation of rotating gravity currents and channel flows is presented. The study is applicable to buoyancy driven flows through straits, mid ocean ridge valleys and fracture zones, and intermittent gravity currents.

Balanced dynamics in the Tropics

open access: yes, 2010
For the shallow-water equations on an equatorial beta plane, the properties of low-frequency Rossby waves and (mixed) Rossby-gravity waves are investigated.

Impacts to the mountain‐valley circulation from the 2023 annular solar eclipse

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
In October 2023, as part of the Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project (NEBP), faculty and students from the University of North Dakota (UND) in coordination with Pueblo Community College Southwest collected weather observations during an annular solar eclipse colloquially known as a ‘ring of fire’ eclipse.

Unusual vertical oscillations of a radiosonde

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
In summer 2023 in southern England, several unusual balloon launches were observed which descended for a few minutes before resuming ascent. This unusual vertical oscillation was repeated several times in a ‘roller‐coaster’‐like pattern. This article discusses the behaviour of the balloons.

On the propagation of atmospheric gravity waves in a non-uniform wind field: Introducing a modified acoustic-gravity wave equation

open access: yes, 2016
Atmospheric gravity waves play fundamental roles in a broad-range of dynamical processes extending throughout the Earth’s neutral atmosphere and ionosphere.

Pressure Pulses Generated by Wire‐Guided Discharges in Water

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The hydrodynamic characteristics of underwater wire‐guided discharges and their relationships with the wire length and pulsed circuit parameters are not fully understood. In this paper wire‐guided discharges using wires of length 3, 5 and 7 cm and diameter of 0.05 mm have been investigated. The energy available to the discharges was 162.3 J at

Nonlinear time series analysis of atmospheric gravity waves

open access: yes, 2016
Internal gravity waves in the Earth's atmosphere are a very interesting and complex research subject in modern atmospheric physics. When the stable layering of the atmosphere is disturbed by for example wind flow over mountain ranges or strong convection
